SBPAC vows to establish peace in southern border provinces in 2016

YALA, 12 November 2015 (NNT) – Peace will be finally established in Thailand's southernmost provinces in 2016, confirmed Phanu Uthairat, the secretary-general of the Southern Border Province Administration Center (SBPAC).

The year 2016 will be considered a ''special'' one in which chronic problems in the southern border provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala will be settled and peace returned with the implementation of projects, operation plans and activities, he said.

That refers in part to the Flagship Projects run by the SBPAC and Front Command of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) which has planned to establish peace in the southern border provinces. The ISOC command is based in the 4th Army Region.

Prayut first promised peace was to be achieved by end of 2014; then by end of 2015; now it's in 2016.

Yet, "Thailand's commitment to restart the dialogue and General Aksara Kerdphol's assignment to lead the Thai team .... a date has yet to be set for the talks to resume."

The BNR refuses to concede the Thai military's unconditional control over the peace process as the military has attempted over the last 55 years. Going forward into 2016 you can expect more of the same from the military. The military has even frustrated Malaysia's efforts to mediate talks and are no longer active.

Perhaps IF and WHEN a progressive elected government takes charge of the peace talks that real progress can be made. As it had begun doing so during the Yingluck regime.
