From ED-Visa to Tourist Visa?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I studied in Bangkok for one year at the University on a ED-VISA. Now my Visa will expire on the 15 of December.

I would like to stay a little bit longer in Thailand and thought I can do this on a Tourist Visa.?

My Plan is to travel with the train or fly direct to Penang or maybe Laos around the 1.December.

In general:

Is it allowed to get a Tourist Visa direct after an ED Visa or can this cause any Problems?

A few thoughts on that.

Did I have to show a them plane ticket out of Thailand ?

Must I show 20.000 Baht in cash? or can I show them a document from my bank account?

Thank you very much for your help!

I will do a 6 months ED visa, and after I would like to do a 6 months tourist visa, can I do this ?

You will have no problem getting the tourist visa. The only count the number of tourist visas you have gotten back to back.

Neither Penang or Laos will ask for the 20k baht proof to get the visa or a ticket out of the country.

You can only get a single entry tourist visa at a nearby location. You could get two of them back to back.

A 2 entry tourist visa valid for 6 months is no longer available and none of the nearby embassies or consulate will issue the new METV unless you are a resident of the country where it is located.

Thank you ubonjoe!

You will not show the 20k Baht to get the visa. I understand. But I heard about people who have to show the 20K Baht when they want to get back into Thailand on a Tourist Visa. Asked by the Thai Officer. Same with the Air plane Ticket? Thats why I'm asking, if they asked me if I have to show them cash or it is ok to show them a document? Sorry Im a little bit confused about that :)

At some land borders you may be asked to demonstrate possession of Cash. A document will not be accepted.

Possession of cash is only rarely needed at airports.

If in possession of a visa it is highly unlikely that an "Air Ticket" will be asked for.

OP,

I had an ED Visa that expired 30 July this year, and when i tried to leave on that same day at a land

border crossing, they wouldn't allow me to, due to not having the ED Visa officially cancelled.

They advised me to only leave by air at Swampy.

Being that your planning to leave on the 1st Dec and your ED Visa expires on the 15th Dec you may

have a similar problem, it may be best to have your ED Visa cancelled first before leaving.

Visas are never cancelled !

Are you really talking about an "extension of stay " ?

Yes, extension of stay due to ED Visa.

Just change at immigration.

Just change at immigration.

Change what?

You cannot change to a tourist visa entry at immigration.

So, just to be clear...

My final extension of stay ends on December 28th. If I leave on or before that date and I fly out of BKK, I do not need any additional paperwork or to cancel my extension. I can just stamp out and leave, right?

Just go the the airport and leave without a problem.
