French police accuse militants of inciting violence at Calais migrant camp

CALAIS: -- The French Channel port of Calais is struggling to cope with the thousands of migrants living in a makeshift camp waiting for an opportunity to smuggle themselves across the Channel to Britain.

Frustration has often boiled over and there have been several nights of clashes with police.

France has accused activists of inciting unrest. The interior ministry says militants calling themselves “No Borders” which is a far-left group that opposes border controls, are exploiting the misery of migrants and encouraging them to riot and to commit violence against the police.

However other activists working in the migrant camp see the situation differently. Rick Mellang of “Yorkshire Aid” said:

“We may be facilitating a rebellion at some point. Essentially, we distribute supplies which facilitate people to jump fences. If we do not give out these supplies these people will freeze to death.”

Meanwhile Calais residents are growing more fearful of the violence. One man said he and his family barricaded themselves at home when around 200 people fought with police outside:

“I hope they do something to make them leave. I don’t think they will, but I hope that at least they’ll increase security measures to keep them from coming here or to keep them in their camp. Because it’s becoming unbearable, unlivable.”

Locals have formed a solidarity group called “Angry Calais Residents” in support of law enforcement, hoping police will stop migrants from entering the nearby housing estate.

Now, who would have EVER thought something like that would take place? They're all just out for a better life, aren't they? All peaceable, eager to do the work nobody else will do, and upright citizens in the making, aren't they?

Europeans thought life is all about front lawns ans soccer preimier league, and problems are far away and the business of the government. Now the trouble seems not that far away but to trample on their tutored lawns and soccer fields, and no solution/escape on the horizon. Maybe there are kinds of problems you cannot solve by just calling 911...

I didn't understand it years ago and I don't understand it now ... Why-T-F hasn't France deported these illegal migrants?

They've not got the bottle to do it. And sadly, neither have most European countries as the EU demi-gods would spank them for ignoring the rights of the migrants.

Stuff their own citizens rights of course.

Soon some residents will take the law in their own hands because these bloody socialists are doing absolutely nothing. They do need "the people" during elections to vote for the corrupt Elite but once that is over those same people can go to hell.... and that's exactly where the Calais residents are living in now!!! Throw that foreign trash into the North Sea once and for all, no more compassion from me.

911 proberbly makes you an American sooo lets change the view.

3000 Mexicans make camp just South of the Rio Grande, then they all decide to cross at the same time and fight the border patrol. What would happen ????

1) France needs to move these people

2) The EU need to understand that just letting these people in, is just delaying the problem. The Arab Spring was a revolution started by terrorists, there was no proper leadership and indeed there is still none.

The UK EU and USA do not seem to understand how these people need to be controlled =. Saddam did Gaddafi did, Bush didn't and neither did Blair.

3) Most are not refugees they are the remnants of Assad's opposition who are now running away.
