Visa Options

Recommended Posts

Ok quick run down of my situation, I left Australia in July 2015 on a double entry tourist visa, when that expired I went to Thai Embassy and got 30 day extension. This is due to expire on 12th December. I obviously wish to stay and do not wish to go with the expense of flying back to Australia to get the new METV.

I was told that if I go to Laos and prove I have 200'000THB I can get a triple entry visa. Does anyone know the validity of this?

There is no more anything like a triple entry since Nov 13.

Also in Laos you never got a triple but at best a double entry.

But history now.

Who told you? "Special agent"?

If you mean the METV, this is not available to visa runners to Laos (officially).

Only for residents in Laos.

You can likely get another single tourist visa.

I went to Thai Embassy and got 30 day extension

You mean a Thai immigration office. No Thai embassy in Thailand of course.

Yes sorry mean Thai Embassy. Thanya from Bangkok Buddy told me that I could get triple entry if I can prove 200'00THB.

I am looking for the best option, weather it be a trip to Cambodia or a trip to Laos that will net me the best outcome.

If you entered on a 2 entry tourist visa in July you would of gotten a 60 day entry that would of ended sometime in September. Then getting a 30 day extension of that entry would of only gotten you to October. It seems you went out and re-entered to use the 2nd entry of your visa that gave you the December 12th date. If my assumption is correct you can get another 30 day extension of your current entry.

At the moment the only tourist visa you get within the region is a single entry one.

You are 100% sorrect, I went to Singapore for 1 week and activated my second entry. So I went to BKK Immigration last week and got a 30 day extension, so what you are saying is that 30 day extesion is on my first entry, and I can go to the embassy again close to the 12th Dec and get another extension which will be on my second entry?

Then around 12th January travel to Cambodia and get a new Single Entry visa for 60 days, then extend it 30 days giving me until April 12th?

"I was told that if I go to Laos and prove I have 200'000THB I can get a triple entry visa. Does anyone know the validity of this?"

  • There is no such visa available from Laos.
  • You will only be able to get a single entry tourist visa (SETV) from Laos or any other neighbouring country.
  • The SETV will give you 60 days that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

I assume you are not married, don't have kids, and are not over 50, in which case the only other option would be the 5 year Thailand Elite visa which costs 500,000 baht.

Not Married

No Kids

I am 41yo

Not wanting to spend 500'000THB

I was thinking next year I could look at an Educational Visa, as I would be interested in learning Thai.

You have already used your 2nd entry and the extension you can get for that entry. December 12th is your last day.

Before you try to do what you were told by the visa service you should look at this: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/en/news/announce/detail.php?ID=313

All you can do is get a single entry tourist visa and extend that entry for 30 days.

A non 'ED' would be an option but immigration are getting stricter with this visa because many people have used it in the past to stay here and didn't attend classes.

As yet there is no known limit on the number of SETV's you can get back to back so you may be able to get a few more before they say no more. Especially if you don't apply in the same country each time.

So what i should have done instead of activating my second entry was to have extended my first entry, then when that expired activated my second entry?

I get that your saying I cannot get an extension on my 1st entry now that I am technically on my second entry?

I have a motorcycle, would it be possible for me to ride to the Cambodian border, park the bike and walk across the border to get a new single entry visa on the 12th December?

Don't fall for it. Even Thanya on her website mentioned they can get Tourist visa for 60 days which you can extend for another 30 days.

You can get a SETV in Laos or Cambodia.

You lost your chance to get the 30 day extension of your first entry as soon as you left the country.

The only thing you can get at a border crossing is a 15 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

You cannot get a new Visa at a border checkpoint - you have to go to the nearest city where a Thai Consulate is located.

Of course, a triple entry visa will not be possible. Nevertheless, this post is interesting. It just might indicate that Bangkok Buddy can arrange an METV for some nationalities based on financial proof only. I will be surprised to learn that the resident requirement can be waived, but it could be true.

If you have two dates written above your visa, and the visa likely has "Cancelled" written or stamped on it, then you are on your 2nd entry. If you left and came back in, without getting a re-entry permit first (allowing you to perserve your first-entry's permission to stay date), then you are on your 2nd entry.

I have a motorcycle, would it be possible for me to ride to the Cambodian border, park the bike and walk across the border to get a new single entry visa on the 12th December?

You can walk across and come back in on a Visa-Exempt entry - good for 30 days if you are from a G7 nation, or 15 days otherwise. Either of those can be extended (permission-of-stay) for 30-days at immigration. You can apply a week before the current permission-of-stay expires, and not loose any days, so do not wait until the last minute.

But - if you want an Single-Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) from the Thai Consulate in Cambodia, then you will need to either go to Phnom Penh and apply directly, or use a visa service, which will carry your passport there, get the stamp, and return it to you. That could be done while you wait in Poipet - though not much to do or see there, unless you like casinos. See more here on my take on getting a Thai-visa in Cambodia:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/870384-setv-phnom-penh-cambodia-paperwork/#entry10076238

The rules applied for an SETV in Cambodia are generally more strict than Laos. Therefore, you may need to show proof of an outgoing ticket plus a hotel reservation. Either of those can be refundable, but if they are requested, they must be valid, and in your name. So far, there have been no reports where anyone needed to show outgoing tickets to get a SETV in Laos. Stay tuned, as the requirements do change periodically.

I doubt it could be true, more likely the OP has misunderstood what he has been told
