Been digging around the forum looking for answer to this, to no avail. So here it is, for the visa sages here:

Previously infrequent visitor to Thailand, under 50, (somewhat) hands-off business in Hong Kong. Ended up with girlfriend legally working in Thailand, though Myanmar citizen, getting pregnant.

Baby is now a month old. Considering visa options to facilitate being around for the baby things.

Looking at the six month multi-entry tourist visa as an option (pretty handy), though I'd technically not really be a tourist. My income is generated through my offices in Hong Kong, where I need to visit somewhat occasionally (hence not ideal to have single entry visas). Seeing that there are non-o options for parents of Thai children, but not so much for parents of Thailand born children whose mother isn't a Thai national.

Any ideas? Can I go the route of establishing guardianship and do non-o to take care of the child while here? Proof of $$$ non-issue, flexible on travel and not necessarily trying to do things the cheapest way possible (saw the whatever VIP visa scheme, though that doesn't appeal so much - longer than necessary, not fully trusting the government, and it's not exactly frugal either).

Insights appreciated.

There are no options at them moment for you to get a non-o visa for being the parent of a non Thai child.. Once your child is old enough to attend school you could get one as their parent.

If you were to get married you could get one as your wife's dependent if she is on a normal extension of stay based upon working.

The METV seems to be the best option at this time.

Amazing summary, Joe. Thanks for the insights!

Will have to make a trip to Europe, though more fun to do that in the spring. Maybe one single entry tourist visa first. Only thing that is leaving me curious is whether there is a rule about how many tourist visas one can have (two so far) and still get the METV.

Whether there would be a problem applying for the METV visa because of your previous would depend upon where you apply for it But at most it will not be a problem.

If the non-thai born in thailand were to attend school, where would you get a non-o visa (single/multiple)? what paperwork would you need to bring?

If he married a non-thai that was working in thailand, where would you get a non-o visa (single/multiple)? what paperwork would you need to bring?

The child would have to enrolled in a school and then with paperwork from the school apply for a single entry non-ed visa and then they could apply for an extension of stay based upon attending school.

The parent could apply for a single entry non-o at the same time the child gets the non-ed visa and then after the child has an extension the parent could apply for an extension as their parent if they have 500k baht in a Thai bank for 30 days (3 months for next extension).

If married to a person that has an extension of stay based upon the spouse could get an extension of stay based upon being their dependent after they obtain a single entry non-o visa by presenting copies of the spouse's passport showing the extension of stay.
