U.N. diplomat in Thailand settles maid slavery case out of court
BY ALISA TANG

NONTHABURI, Thailand (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - An Ethiopian housemaid who was suing the head of the U.N. World Health Organization (WHO) in Thailand and his wife for beating and enslaving her on Monday settled the lawsuits out of court.

Emebet Mono Bezabh, 25, worked as a housemaid for Yonas Tegegn's family in an expatriate neighbourhood in Nonthaburi, north of Bangkok, for nearly two years.

She said she was beaten at least three times a week by Tegegn's wife, only allowed to eat rice, and forced to sleep with the family dog.

"Once she slapped me so much that for a long time afterward, some liquid was coming out of my ear. The wife told the husband, and he brought me medicine," Bezabh told the Thomson Reuters Foundation via a translator at Nonthaburi provincial court.

Why not? the UN is like a big fat ugly family protecting their own people, cushy jobs such as

head of UN department is hard to come by, in earlier years when I had a business in Bkk I had

UN people stations in Bkk as my customers, and those people has enjoyed the best of the

expat trappings one could have living in opulent life style, all on the UN dime....

It all shows that the UN is not be taken seriously when employing womenmolesters as their head of a WHO division.

It is best to hide your evils by showing publicly your outrage against those same evils. This family is a prime example of this. Thailand is the best place for him as a WHO rep. Their are lots of examples of this doing the same thing. I believe the saying (do as I say and not as I do) applies for this guy.

money, money, money

In order of milking the cash cow, UN then NGOs all have possible positives but very few actually deliver.

One world for the haves and another world for us.

Forever has it been thus.

Its important to remember which side of the coin of history your on - then you can bring change. If subservient then it continues.

Deport these uncouth animals on huge, tax free salaries, bonuses, per diems and treating their own people like that ! Shame on the UN for turning a blind eye and deaf ear. WHO ? Ha ! Imagine our respective governments finances this garbage.

Too true. They represent some of the world'd worst bullying parasites.

Settle out of court?

Ok, I'm happy the maid got some compensation, but as the offences committed by the WHO official and/or his wife are criminal they should still be prosecuted.

Or do they have diplomatic immunity? The WHO guy I guess does, but his wife.......

A cash settlement out of court is fine but they should still be criminally prosecuted.

A cash settlement out of court is fine but they should still be criminally prosecuted.

In Thailand a cash settlement 'out of court' accepted by the victim(s)'side in most cases brings an end to the penal prosecution (as it includes the plaintiff(s) withdrawing their complaint, followed by the ministry public near-automatically halting the prosecution for lack of injured/damaged party).

The 'influential' and 'hi-so' people being the ones having the money...

N.B.: Most 'situations' don't even reach the courts here, as the BiBs are the ones, erm, 'arranging' a cash settlement between parties, ...with a big slice of the pie for themselves, of course!

The silence of WHO is deafening................shame on them sad.png Saving face is not just confined to "some other" groups of people.

They didn't turn a deaf ear, they suspended him from work and it never went to court. So, in the eyes of the law they are innocent of any wrongdoing.

However, I do think it would be best to remove them their post. Leaving them in that position would simply be bad publicity for the UN and as the saying goes "one bad apple spoils the bunch".

I would have preferred to see it go to court but like always money talks. The maid had better be careful what she says now as they are innocent in the yes of the law and if she fires any accusations that could be seen as libellous and she could end up being the one going to court.

Another fine upstanding official member of the UN. Beats me why any decent country wants to have anything to do with this org anymore, Especially the Human Rights branch.

Still a UN diplomat?

Likely shuffled somewhere else.

The UN is useless...

Not too many years ago, during the oil embargo of Iraq, the son of the head cheese of the UN, the Secretary General, in what was called, oil for food, was caught ripping off large amounts of money, millions, selling the oil to anyone one with cash. I don't remember anything done about that either. Someone please explain to me what the UN has done for mankind in the last 60 years? coffee1.gif

This is absolutely normal behaviour for most of these 'Elite do-gooders' working with these huge International NGO's.

90% of them give a d*** to the people they are supposed to help.

Note: Before starting a bashing campaign, just calculate the cost for a month for 1 family of these 'Elite' - that would be enough to feed 10 poor families for a year or more.

Then compare how they treat the native staff.

This article just high lights just one incident of maybe 1000's.

Just another similar incident >>>> http://english.cntv.cn/special/imfchiefarrested/homepage/index.shtml

Helped themselves to lead a 10* comfortable life!

Absolutely correct!

Edit

There is no admission of wrongdoing in the out-of-court settlement.

UN needs to be shut down and restarted from scratch.

To many veto states.

And corruption.

You should get voting power equal to how much you fund the organization.

Today it's as corrupt as FIFA or IOC.

Simply because majority of member states are corrupt and this is of course reflected.

The UN and its offshoot the WHO is comprised of unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats with socialist agendas who live high on the taxpayers dollar while pursuing their ideology. The lot of them have their noses buried deep in the public money trough.

The UN is trying to create the New World Order, while the WHO has long since abandoned its original remit, and is now mostly concerned with coercing people into 'approved' lifestyles. When the Ebola epidemic was raging, Margaret Chan, the Director-General of the WHO, and her cronies were in Moscow on a five star junket at a conference about how they could further persecute smokers. Because smokers don't adhere to the 'approved' lifestyle as laid down by The Powers That Be in the WHO. This was obviously much more important than addressing an epidemic raging through Africa.

Neither the UN or the WHO are fit for purpose, and should be broken up. They are just a bunch of leeches who want to impose their dystopian ideology on all of us. And like most politicians, they have no idea what goes on in the real world, never having had real jobs. They live in a bubble, a parallel universe, where hard work, struggle and privation are abstract theories they have no experience of.

A plague on all their houses.
