Whereabouts remain unknown of Paris attacks 'mastermind'

PARIS: -- The Paris public prosecutor has been giving more details of Wednesday morning’s seven hour operation against the alleged mastermind of last week’s deadly attacks in the French capital.

Two people died including a woman who’s said to have blown herself up; another suspect was shot dead. Human remains found in the rubble of the flat have yet to be identified.

Francois Molins said the operation “eliminated a terrorist cell” planning new attacks.

The raid on a flat in the northern Saint Denis district was launched after phone taps, a tip-off and surveillance led authorities to believe Abdel-Hamid Aba Oud was holed up in the apartment.

But he was not among eight people arrested and it remains unknown as to whether he had been in the property. Aba Oud is suspected to planning Friday’s gun and bomb attacks in which 129 people were killed.

More than 5,000 rounds of ammunition were fired in the gunbattle between militants and police on Wednesday morning. Work is now underway to prevent the main building targeted from collapsing.

After five days of investigating, Molins also revealed that police have discovered what he described as a “total war arsenal” of Kalashnikovs and explosives.

Well according to the Washington Post, Abdelhamid Abaaoud is among the two dead in the raid in Paris. So not captured. Dead. Not fully confirmed but a good source.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/

Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the Belgian national and Islamic State operative, was killed during a massive police raid that also killed another suspected terrorist, senior European officials said, after investigators followed leads that the fugitive militant could be plotting another wave of violence.

Confirmed of the newsreels here too. What caused me to spill my coffee over the key board was..."French police fired 5000 rounds in the assault on their building"... holy be jeez...they were sure letting our their anger.

BBC say that the French are saying he was not among those arrested.

it is not confirmed yet by the authorities, the dead bodies are not recognizable so they have to wait for DNA expertise

I thought he was spotted in Phuket. tongue.png

Why didn't all those moderate muslims in the neighborhood we keep hearing about tell the police that a terror cell was infesting an entire apartment floor?

BBC are finding it hard to call this man a terrorist of any description. If he is dead too many in BBC would be too sad to report it and would then refer to him as a martyr.

Why would you think they knew? Why did the police let him go when they had him upon his return from syria? If the police had no issue they why would you think anyone else should have?

His father moved from morrocco to brussells 4 decades ago. The little terrorist was then sent to an exclusive catholic school (will u blame the catholics). He was a real pest, bullying and stealing. He was convicted of robbery in 2010. Later he went to syria fighting for isis. He returned to europe for a while and returned to syria boasting of being let go by police.

His family are hoping he is dead, they have had nothing to do with him for years and want him gone.

CNN is saying the mastermind is dead. DNA has proven he was one of the two bodies in the Saint Denis raid.

Yes, it is now CONFIRMED; he's with the virgin goats right now (translation error).

Now go after every one who is financing it. Everyone, and put them in the same state of health.

It depends on how long it lasted. The guns were probably fully auto and this type of firing is often done (called "suppressive fire") to make the bad guys keep their heads down. It degrades their ability to return fire also. This also partly protects others in the neighborhood when the bad guys can't come up shooting.

It's simply astounding how many rounds the military fires for each actual wounding hit but it's intentional and understandable.

Cheers.

The French did a good job at St Denis, particularly in such a densely populated residential area.

No friendly fire deaths and the scum were well and truly locked down and overcome.

Shame Diesel had to die, though.

Let's hope our British armed services are capable of the same. If this situation were to occur in the UK I fear it'll be high-vis vests, hard hats and electronic tags all round.

Not very sensitive of you JT. Bear in mind this is a worldwide day of mourning for members of a certain religious movement. Their hero gave up his life fighting against the infidel, and all you can do is make bestiality jokes?

I always had to impression you consider yourself intelligent and above idiotic vilification - obviously not

I can't imagine why you think the right-wing propaganda tool is "a good source." By the way, your link did not lead to the story, so I still have't read it. Maybe Fred Hiatt decided to pull the story because it didn't come from the White House, the Pentagon, or the State Department via an anonymous "official."

The death has now been confirmed. Keep up!
