US 'grave disappointment' with Thailand for deportations

Interesting point here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_relating_to_the_Status_of_Refugees

It is widely accepted that the prohibition of forcible return is part of customary international law. This means that even States that are not party to the 1951 Refugee Convention must respect the principle of non-refoulement.[10] Therefore, States are obligated under the Convention and under customary international law to respect the principle of non-refoulement. If and when this principle is threatened, UNHCR can respond by intervening with relevant authorities, and if it deems necessary, will inform the public.[10]

Grave disappointment from a country like the US who has multiple torture centers, secret prisons and has installed and underwrites some of the worst dictators worldwide for decades and imprisons it's own whistleblowers that are trying to point out the USG's attempts at curbing it's public's rights and freedoms and this same dubious group is worried about 2 people being deported from Thailand. Pleaseeee. Now that is a serious case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Please provide a link that shows the US torturing and imprisoning their own citizens inside the US for voicing their opinions about democracy and human rights. Snowden doesn't cut it. He did break the law.

They were illegally staying in Thailand, so off course they should be deported. The western world should do the same, and many terrorism incidents would have been avoided.

Rubbish, they were refugees certified by the UN. The western world would not have done the same.

As Europe will find out with deadly consequences.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/19/world/asia/china-insists-to-un-that-its-combating-torture.html

GENEVA — Senior Chinese officials dismissed allegations of the widespread use of torture, responding Wednesday to questions from a United Nations panel by affirming their commitment to eliminating the practice — though with a dearth of details.

In opening remarks before a hearing of the panel, the United Nations Committee Against Torture, China’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said the “copious data” that the Chinese delegation had provided showed “truly tangible, physical and sustained” achievements in combating torture. The ambassador, Wu Hailong, led a 39-member delegation to the two-day hearing.

Human rights advocates countered that the officials’ evasion of many questions posed in the hearing exhibited a disregard for international norms bordering on contempt. As the hearing progressed, they listened with what they described as a mix of incredulity and derision to the delegation’s responses on interrogation.

The entire article is a good read. Love the part about the torture chairs. LOL

Thailand will soon become China,s bitch. No one else will cater to Thailand with the junta government and the living conditions in Thailand. Young

teenage children allowed to live alone with no income. 5 living in one room to have a place to live. These young people are the future of Thailand but no government agency helps them.

Sounds like what the do-gooders demand in the west.

Ban the parents from applying discipline, encourage and fund the teenagers to leave home, and then sit there bewildered scratching their heads wondering where the new age approach went wrong and why their 'clients' turn to drugs and/or prostitution.

Rubbish. They were declared refugees and about to leave for a country that wanted them. Thailand should have issued an emergency visa for them.

The dear general is going to now have big problems getting any other country to deport thais back to their own country. Seems this action will beyond any doubt mean thaksin will never be returned.

Can't agree with your "politically correct" post. Hope you get faced with a similar situation!

I wonder what would have been the stance of all those who support the Thai military government in its policy towards refugees if they would live before and during World War 2 with all the Jewish refugees leaving Nazi Germany and seeking asylum in other countries.

Send them back to Auschwitz?

spare a thought and prayer for those two sitting, forlorn, in a dark and damp cell when they thought they were safe as UN registered refugees

they are finished... ANY defence of this deportation is vile and disgusting I, for one, hope their hell ends soon
