Trying to work out the best visa for our time in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hey...if someone could guide me here it would be great. Married couple from Australia...husband is 50 I am 49...we will be applying for a visa soon from here in Australia. Considering a Retirement Visa O-A multi entry for hubby and an Non Imm O as dependent for me. We intend to travel around Thailand a bit in our first 12 months (and possibly beyond) staying approximately 2 months at various places...does this pose a problem with 90 day reporting, as our residential address will continually change?

Also, another thing concerning me...is - Retirement Visa O-A has a period of stay for 12 months....but a spouse (dependency) Non Imm O has a period of stay for only 90 days....does that mean I would still have to exit and re enter the Kingdom every 90 days...or would I be entitled to a period of stay for the same period (ie 12 months) based on my husband's visa....if that is the case (and gosh I hope so)...would I need to be by his side at the immigration desk on arrival into Thailand.

Thankyou to anyone that can help me out here.

The reports of staying longer than 90 days in the country are not needed unless you stay longer than than 90 days. If you stay longer than 90 days you will need to establish a residence somewhere to do the 90 day reporting. You can do the reports by mail or online. If by mail you will need to have an address for immigration to send the receipt to that is the same as the address on the report form.

There is good chance that the embassy will only issue a single entry non-o visa to you.

You can get an extension of stay based upon your husband's non-oa visa entry at an immigration office. Your extension will be equal to the permit to stay date you husband has at the time you apply. Once you have the extension you will need a re-entry permit to keep it valid if you want to travel.

If you will be staying in hotels, 90-day reports should be OK. You just give the address of your current hotel.

That said, if you are planning on traveling anyway, why not plan to exit every couple of months and see Siem Reap, Mandalay, Luang Prabang and may other interesting sites in the region.

Hopping around the country, staying in hotels and doing 90 day reports is no longer possible. Immigration has tightened up the requirements and want a firm proof of residence now.

Hey....we intend to stay in one place for 2 - 3 months anyway...and will most likely rent a small house/condo/villa/bungalow rather than stay in a hotel...I would hope that would help. Its just every time we report it will be a "different" address but still be able of prove our residence per se...is that acceptable?

A long as you have proof of residence and submit a TM28 change of address form along with a TM30 form from the owner you can do it.
