new passport

Featured Replies

hello everybody

if somebody can give me info about data transfer from old to new passport,

there is any fee to pay?

I have been yesterday at immigr. office in hua hin for tranfer data from old to new passport.

I have been asked (wisphering) 500 bht and got no recipt for.

my feeling is to be fooled.

I am sospicious, as in the past, in the same office, to get visa extension, was required a witness who know us and confirm about the adress where we are living.

as we didn't know and have one, office personnel offer a girl, unknown to us who can testify for 2000 bht.

which we accepted to not go longer with the matter.

we seen often that girl in the office, trying to get somebody to "help" for cash, accordingly with staff, who obvjously share.

the next time we went with the man who rent us home where we live.

he has been taken into separate office and questionning for 15 minutes, trying making problems,

obvjously they were not happy about it.

if somebody could tell me about the fee , due or not, I'll be happy.

thanks

Dodo

It is a "FREE" service.

There is no charge for transferring data from an old passport to a new one .

It is endemic corruption at Immigration Offices in Thailand.

Officially, it is definitely a NO FEE service.

Oh well!

Coincidence, dodos! I too had to go yesterday to transfer my visa to a new passport in Hua hin. Wasn't sure if I had to copy my old passport for them, so my Thai assistant called beforehand. No was the answer.... only the Thai Immigration form, the form from my passport office, plus the old and new passport. Got to the office and told I must make a full copy of my old passport bah.gif . So I didn't transfer after all (I know they have a copying service), as I had to be back at work and didn't really have time.... I will go back on Monday.

Thank you oncearruge for the info... I too wasn't sure if there was a fee for the transfer.... now I know smile.png

After all these years, I wonder how many copies of my passport they have at the various Thai government offices..... come to that, how many photographs?!

Officially, it is definitely a NO FEE service.

Oh well!

+1, I did mine in Pattaya and it was a 1 day affair (the officer that needed to sign wasn't in) and I was charged 0 THB.

I transferred and it was free.

Just forget about it......bad but not worth the hassle.

I had my new passport and had CW immigration transfer just last week. Easy and no problem. Transfered my extension for retirrment and multiple entry visa transfred. NO FEE.You are being ripped off. Someone report these crooks

How do you report a crook to a crook?

That's the problem

I got charged 500 Baht at Hua Hin Immigration 8 years ago for transferring stamps, sounds like they are still up to their old tricks laugh.png

It is endemic corruption at Immigration Offices in Thailand.

And a source of constant excitement for farang all of whom come from countries without corruption.

I guess you can write it off compared to the exorbitant taxes one would have to pay for deplorable services in Farang Land.

I wonder whether an immigration officer's request of payment for a service that should be free is covered by section 148 of the Criminal Code, also known as the Penal Code:

Section 148 Whoever, to be the official, by a wrongful exercise of one's functions, to coerce or to induce any person to deliver or to procure the property or any other benefit for oneself or other person, shall be imprisoned as from five years to twenty years or to life imprisonment, and fined as from two thousand Baht to forty thousand Baht, or both.

When an immigration officer asks for money where none is due, or more than what is due, wouldn't it be nice to slip him an envelope containing a piece of paper with the Thai text of the above Section 148 of the Criminal code:

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

It is endemic corruption at Immigration Offices in Thailand.

Only some offices.

It seems the offices in the tourist areas are real scammers.

Why not move to the real Thailand and relax?

Just wanted to come to confirm what the original poster (dodos) said..... just got back from Hua Hin Immigration and was charged a "processing fee" for changing visa into new passport... quietly informed that "her back there"(?) insisted on it, and no receipt given.

I just accepted it (reluctantly) as very soon I will be applying for my extension.... you never know if you will get the same officer next time - better to be safe than sorry smile.pngbah.gif
