I know it is early, but I am looking for ideas. I am loathe to cook it indoors, no a/c in the kitchen etc. We have been to Shangrila for the past three years but I want somewhere different for this yuletime lunch. I think it will either be the new Hilton, Oriental or maybe trader Vics at the Marriot. Any input? It would need to be child friendly, that really is the only big criteria we have and indoors too. My parents are coming over and the heat kills them

Thank you

I don't know about you guys, but I'll be going home for Christmas. Probably off topic, but last year I decided to stay, my first Christmas in warm lands...I found it completely strange and annoying. Since I was a child I used to spent my winter holidays in a skiing resort with my family and my friends. Looking at an artificial Christmas tree standing next to a palm treee at 30 degrees Celsius, no snow, no family, no old friends was a nightmare for me. This year I'll head home and will take my gf with me to show her what I was talking about the last time :o

Way off topic Alexth,

So I'll continue, Jomtien Beach, 12 inch xmas tree carried from the UK, party poppers, crackers, paper hats......but more importantly, a seafood feast by the sea.

Now thats what I call Christmas Lunch :o

No not too early as some of these places are already taking bookings.

Personal preferance would be Robin Hood under the BTS at Soi 33 Traditional British.

Traditional American would be Burbon Street at in washington square.

Both enjoyable.

:D Thanks for the replies, but as the responsible :o mother of two boisterous little girls, I doubt anybody would thank me if I turned up at either the Robin Hood or Dubliner or IEx with them. I was thinking more hotel like situations. I really don't fancy going to the beach so as I am a lazy moo hotels are the way to go.

To the person who thought that Christmas should be cold. Do as we did one year in the middle east. Close all the curtain, put the a/c on as cold as possible and make a fire out of paper and card and tack it on the wall. Voila. Instant western Christmas. :D

The Bourbon Street Christmas buffet is a very family oriented deal. A great many locally resident American families make a tradition of it and the kids always seem to have a great time.

The Robin Hood and Dubliner would be better for "two boisterous girls", than a hotel.

:D Thanks for the replies. Bourbon street is the one we have chosen. The reason I had checked out hotels is that most if not all have a seperate room for those of use who have chosen to procreate :D (or not chosen). Not wishing to upset the childless with two monkeys. :o

My favorite is the Sheraton Grande on Sukhumvit with a sumptous buffet spread out over the 3rd florr with food coming from all the restaurants. You can sit in the Living Room, Rossinis or Basil Thai Restaurant. It really is the best! Child friendly too as I/we have gone with up to 4 children each year. A tad expensive at about 1800 baht but well worth it! Request to sit in the Living Room as you overlook all and they have live music playing as well.

:D Thanks flight crew, that seems reasonable to me. This year the Shangrila has increased the cost of it's xmas lunch to 3500 baht :o . Once the price goes up that much, people will vote with their feet

3500!! at Shangrila for Christmas lunch? Wow! Outrageous! I went 3 years ago with a group of friends for the lunch and they did not even have mash or brussels sprouts! Shocked! Oh and when I went to get 2nd's on the turkey they were out!! Now I generally like the Next2Cafe at Shangrila but I have found they can't handle the holiday buffets and run out quickly!!

I have never had this problem at Sheraton Grande! Did I mention they have an Indian Chef and though it's not normal Christmas fare....he is quite good with popular Indian Foods!

Had Christmas lunch at the Landmark last year, excellent buffet, lots of families with children, unfortunately can't remember how much, but nonetheless a good meal. Its worth a look.
