... in the string of popular titles.... i bring you "The Bain of Cobra's".

Seems lately Cobra's are starting to enjoy the company of our village. An old trick which I heard from villagers was to spread sulphur around the house to keep them at bay.

any other tricks ?

p.s. so far no pigeons with the fake snake on the roof. Thx

Perhaps the pigeons would be better than the cobras you are now attracting?biggrin.png

I thought an old Thai trick was to beat them to death with anything they could lay their hands on?

Maybe you tell the villagers that Cobras eat other snakes so there will be less snakes overall............nah forget it................they know best, Thai way or the highway

The "old trick" that most Thais use , and I now do, and probably why there so many of them, is keep a dog, they alert every time to the presence of a snake, or any other intruder come to that.

Maybe you should look at why they are there, Maybe the place needs a good clean, Human food and animals waste attracts Rats and then the snakes come looking for the rats.keeping chickens ducks also attracts snakes,

Isn't one of the thai old wives stories of how to keep snakes away, is grow lemongrass.

Not related, but we used to get cobras in our garden when our kids were very toddlers (the youngest was not scared of any animals so we were terrified he'd go to a snake if he saw one). Every hot season around April we'd have cobras. One year the mother in law reckoned she saw 2 doing a mating dance, sure enough we had baby cobras in the garden with one right outside our mosi screen door. We decided to take out of the garden all plants and leave only the trees and grass. Haven't seen cobras in the 10 years since.

We had visitors to our home (in Chiang Mai) two months ago. They wanted to see the Elephant Reserve..(the good one in Lampang), so we took them.

After we toured the "museum", we were all escorted on a trolley..to see the elephant show. On the road ahead was and object, which appeared to be, at first, a small tree branch. Somebody sounded the alarm, and now I could see it was a large cobra, poised for a strike. All our legs were exposed, and the trolley was only going about 10 kpm. My leg was on the cobra side of the vehicle! The driver just yawned, and turned the steering wheel to the right, crushing the cobra, with a satisfying popping noise. He never even looked back. The rest of the tour..on foot, was spent worrying where the next one was.

Since we have been hanging garlic around the house, there have not been any problems with vampires in the area. Maybe it will work with snakes?

Got anything for inlaws ! whistling.gif
