In many countries a medical examiner can order an autopsy without the consent of the next-of-kin.

As I understand, if a foreigner dies in Thailand (outside of a hospital) their body is sent to the Examining Magistrate's office to determine cause of death.

Correct. In any situation other than a death by natural causes or the result of a long term known and treated illness an autopsy would be mandatory followed a coroner's report.

In such a situation it would be interesting how a coroner justified some of the suicides by hanging with the victims hands tied behind their back.

In most Western countries a post-mortem (autopsy) examination would be mandatory in all cases of sudden, unexpected, unnatural, or accidental death.

I have no idea what the Thai legal position is.

......all stated as hearsay.....

...God knows what they were told.....

....but seems like a 'wrongful death' scenario....

...sad and scary....

...condolences to the family....

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a try dive?

A one time diving experience for non-certified divers. If done properly very safe, but there are also companies who don't adhere to the standards from e.g. PADI or SSI.
