Satun police chief removed after a soccer match violence



BANGKOK: -- The chief of Satun provincial police was abruptly moved to an inactive post at the 9th region provincial police bureau after soccer fans attacked four referee and linesmen during a Second Division soccer match between Satun United FC and Khon Kaen United FC on Sunday night.

Pol Col Chairat Kanchananet was ordered to report to the bureau on Tuesday and a fact-finding probe was ordered to determine whether the Satun provincial police commander was in the wrong or not for his failure to stop the mob attack.

The four injured referees and linesmen have lodged a complaint with Satun province after the incident.

Police said that fans of Satun United FC were not happy that their team lost to the visitors, Khon Kaen United FC, and accused the four officials of siding with the visiting team. They later attacked the officials.

Mr Samrith Liangprasit, mayor of Satun provincial administration organization, who is also president of Satun United FC , and the board today offered an apology to all parties concerned for his failure to control the mob.

He said his club was ready to accept whatever the consequences.

The newspaper that cannot be quoted had a 3-4 page spread, not too long ago, on Inactive posts. The short answer to your question is NOTHING. And, they still get paid same as they did at the old post. What a waste of taxpayer money.

Watched the news on channel 3 on the day that this occurred and they did absolutely nothing, in the end the field was awash with soccer hooligans and the poor old refs,who gave out a couple of yellow cards, copped it well and truly. Sorry but I don't have any links to the incident.

This is different from hooliganism in England and highlights the difference in characters for the two countries.

The Brits are simply violent yobs who want to fight. They go up against similar people who support other teams and fight just for the sake of it. They love violence and some are very intelligent people.

This attack by Thais demonstrates the extreme spite they hold against people who they think have made them lose face and also the mentality of 'revenge' which exists long after the event. The Thai violence is much more sinister because it shows an evil streak which lies behind the smile. I have heard many stories about what they will do. Burning something down in the middle of the night is a common tale.

It's not surprising in the slightest that those tomatoes did nothing to stop their own supporters. I bet they would have joined in if they thought they could get away with it. The Thai police did not get their reputation by accident.
