Lopburi steps up plastic bag reduction campaign

LOPBURI, 26 November 2015 (NNT) – The governor of Lopburi Province has led a parade of environmental campaigners around the downtown area to encourage the public to opt for environmentally-friendly containers.

Around 1,000 representatives from public and private agencies and local schools joined the activity. The march started from the King Narai Palace and proceeded to different spots in the city center.

Govenor Panu Yamsri said Lopburi Province has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Modern Trade department store and local retailers on 28th July in a collaborative effort to lower use of plastic bags by 60 percent within this year. However, the result is still below the target as of now.

The governor stressed the need for the public to opt for more environmentally-friendly containers, adding that public participation in this campaign could pave the way for environmental sustainability.
