Panel to probe DSI official over alleged embezzlement

BANGKOK: The new director-general of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), Paisit Wongmuang, has set up a committee to launch a serious disciplinary probe against a C7-ranked special case investigator over allegedly pocketing of bail money from a fraud suspect, an informed source reported on Friday.

The alleged embezzlement of bail money was in relation to the case of an essential-oil fraud scheme. The official in question was already suspended from work pending the probe result, the source said.

Paisit had emphasised a clear policy to suppress corruption within the agency in a bid to restore public confidence.

.... and so it continues....

Corruption is never ending in Thailand.

Welcome to your new inactive post in a country of inactive law enforcement!

more foxes in the coop than chickens

...at least this one will be held accountable....let's hope they see it through to completion....

...and please provide a channel or avenue for others that have 'paid for justice'....and gotten nothing in return....

It will be old outdated news this time next week and forgotten about by the end of the next week.

Back when Prem was the prime minister, under a "revolutionary committee" government (he wasn't elected), my wife and I had some business at a government agency. I don't remember which one, but it had something to do with my adopted son so maybe Public Health. Anyway, I was surprised at the number of signs on the walls and in the hallway, "You do not have to pay anything extra here." I suppose the signs in Thai said the same thing. My wife couldn't read or write, but she was Thai and she knew Thai customs, so she offered the nice lady a plain white envelope. The woman looked around in a complete panic! She whispered, "Take that away, are you trying to get me fired?" She was obviously shaken for the rest of the transaction which was unsuccessful because we lacked some paperwork, but it was amazing. Somehow I don't think the same kind of atmosphere prevails in government officers under Prime Minister Prayut.

By the way, Prem was extremely popular as Prime Minister. When elections were finally held in 1988 I remember a case being reported of one elderly countryman plaintively asking, "Which party do I vote for to have Prem come back as Prime Minister?"
