For proof of address when applying for a visa Ive always obtained a proof of residency certificate from local immigration however its become pretty annoying handing over a few hundred baht each time plus the extra trip to immigration. I was just wondering if anyone knows if its ok to use a Thai driving lisence as proof of address when applying for a visa.

Thanks in advance

Visa are obtainable out side Thailand only why would you need a document from inside Thailand thats only good for 30 days as I never have heard of any Thai embassy requiring this.

Clarification please.

It depends upon which office you use to apply for your extension of stay (it is not a non-o visa). What is your extension based upon?

Many want firm proof of residence such as a rental agreement with copies of your landlords house book and ID card attached.

Sorry I wasnt clear. Im applying for a visa based on looking after a Thai dependent. I have her birth certificate and tabian baan but wouldnt I need something to show that I actually lived at the same address?

If you are getting it at immigration it is an extension based upon being the parent of a Thai.

If you are living at the same address as your child's house book registry is for that is all you should need.

Or are you going to an embassy or consulate to apply for a visa.

Yes its a non o but not an extension of stay. Im leaving Thailand to apply for the visa but Im wondering if I can use my Thai driving lisence as firm proof of address? Normally I use my partners id card, tabian baan and letter stating we live together (we/she owns our house so there is no rental contract) to obtain a proof of residency cert locally in Thailand before I leave but its becoming arduous.

Most embassies and consulates do not ask for proof of address.

Correct, the most they will ask for is a contact address in Thailand to be placed on the application form, and most people list a hotel since there is no proof required
