16 FIFA bosses arrested in ongoing corruption probe

ZURICH: -- Football bosses from across South and Central America were among 16 people charged by US prosecutors on Thursday with multi-million dollar bribery schemes for marketing and broadcast rights to tournaments and matches.

The current and former chiefs of the Brazil Football Confederation were among those charged.

The US attorney general Loretta Lynch told reporters that corruption had become deeply ingrained in the business of football.

“Not content to hijack the world’s most popular sport for decades of ill-gotten gains, these defendants, as alleged, sought to institutionslise their corruption to ensure that it lived on. Not for the good of the game, but for their own personal aggrandisement and gain.

“The betrayal of trust set forth here is truly outrageous. The scale of corruption alleged herein is unconscionable.

“And the message from this announcement should be clear to every culpable individual who remains in the shadows, hoping to evade this ongoing investigation: you will not wait us out; and you will not escape our focus.”

The raid on the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich echoed arrests at the same place in May that plunged FIFA into crisis. The avalanche of corruption allegations prompted FIFA president Sepp Blatter to say he’d resign, just days after being re-elected to a fifth term.

Fifa people at it all over the world and poor old ' Honest ' Sept Blatter's the only one who knew nothing about.

Why should he though as he was only the organisation's president when it was happening ! ??

They should take all the votes ( for Host countries) from these people who have been arrested. Take total votes and minus the corupt vote and see which country has the most votes for the next two World Cups. These two countries should be awarded the World Cup. End of Story !

Soccer (futbal) is definitely the most popular sport in the world. Kinda funny that in one country where people don't think much of it, the US, the whole corrupt organization gets taken down. Ms Lynch may not have a long tenure as attorney general but it sure is a busy one.

Does make one wonder how all the governments in football crazy nations missed all the corruption.... Perhaps players should unite and form a new organization, WFA World Football Association. How did those rapacious geezers get into power anyway? Players and teams are akin to indentured servants serving diabolical masters. Wipe the deck clean of FIFA and start over again.

How are we ever gonna know if the next new president hasnt already bought the votes for the presidency of Fifa? And are there any people left in fifa that can vote, who is NOT on the take? It seems like you cannot advance there unless you are 'bent'. Why does Septic Bladder and Platini expect us all to believe they were the only ones not on the take? Fifa is a joke, should be completely dis-banded and start afresh.

It only happened because Russia was awarded the World Cup.
