The officer probably should of said it is recommended to apply at least a week early. Many people do them with less than a week.

You must do it in person.

I successfully put in my application on the 5th of April, one day before the expiry date. I had initially tried to hand over my paperwork on the 1st (Friday) but the lady Officer was the most miserable woman ever, nearly as bad as the gay man on reception and wouldn`t accept it as she didn`t like my photos.

I really do not not know where they get their staff from at these government offices, their attitude is abismal, this one wouldn`t even talk to, or acknowledge me or any other foreigner only the Thai wives.

After she had seen me stuggling with my 4 month old and 6 year old daughters in the packed and sweaty room for the last couple of hours, also waiting for them to finish her hour long lunch break, with nobody to cover her it all seems the normal crazy shambles that sadly i have come to expect. Lack of respect and morals. Land of smiles????

I find it shocking that this is not only a representation of the Thai culture but of the whole country and these people should surely be vetted on this basis. It really makes you want to tear up the application in their faces and walk out of the office, maybe thats what they want?

Anyway, rant over, they gave me a 30 day extension whilst my application is sent up to Bangkok to be considered, I hope that this is standard practice.
