External wall to reduce noise from adjacent workers' camp.

Featured Replies

My little hotel is located in a rural, rubber-tree plantation setting.

Over the past year, new developments have been constructed nearby ==> rented rooms, condos etc. So unfortunately, it is not so rural now.

Immediately adjacent to my land, for about 1 year, a temporary Burmese workers' camp will be located.

I want to minimise the level of noise interference (music, talking etc) from that camp, so that my guests are not disturbed.

I need to build a wall between my land and the adjacent land where the camp will be located. This wall will also stop 'prying eyes' on my hotel guests, many who will be wearing bikinis, (including the women...).

Dr Google has been very helpful about external walls to reduce adjacent noise. A 2-metre high wall, topped with bushy vines, and with some water feature (white noise), can be very effective. (I already have many water fountains in my garden).

The wall that I need to build has to be about 90 metres in length. That could work out rather expensive if built of block and cement.

Google suggests that if only noise reduction is required, not physical strength to deny intrusion etc, then the wall need not be built of solid block. A thin material that moves can be equally effective.

So, the question is:

What would be a suitable and cheap material to build a 2-metre high external wall around my land, with the primary purpose of that wall being to reduce adjacent noise?

A company called 'Acoustiblok' make something called 'Acoustifence' - it is a thick black 'sheet' of material that blocks sound and can be hung on a wooden or metal fence. You'd have to contact them to see if they'd ship to Thailand and what the shipping would be, I don't know if there would be import taxes. Or you could search for a supplier of a similar product in Thailand.

Q-con is another option. That is available here. A small foundation and a few vertical supports should do. It is lightweight concrete block. Aerated concrete. Not much to it really. They are made in 10 or 20 cm blocks. I didn't find it all that expensive. I have a house made of the 20 cm blocks, It is quiet and easy to cool.

bamboo with vines growing between them , but be careful the vines may take over every thing, if not kept under control.
