Venezuelans vote as polls predict return of the right after 16 years out of office

CARACAS: -- Venezuela may be on the verge of turning away from Socialism and electing a majority conservative government for the first time in 16 years.

Voting has been steady since polling stations opened and President Nicolas Maduro, although he has refused foreign observers, promises to respect the electorate’s decision. Opinion polls say he is going to lose.

“The Bolivarian Revolution will respect the results of the elections that arise from the will of the people, whatever they are, in the most strict and impeccable way,” he said.

Maduro had previously said he would never abandon the revolution, and 18 months ago his security forces killed 43 people when street protests erupted.

The wife of jailed opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, Lilian, has become her party’s leader. A big enough majority and she might be able to free her husband.

“Today I came to vote for my children. Today I came to vote for the freedom of all the political prisoners. Today I came to vote for a better Venezuela that starts today,” she said.

The government has seen its support fall as basic necessities become hard to find in shops and the low oil price wrecks the country’s finances. While still earning praise for some of its welfare programmes, many are disappointed by Maduro, and that his administration has run out of ideas.

A return to the right? hmm do not expect the stores to be full of merchandise. The right is well known for their distain of the common man. Government industries and services will be sold off to their big business friends at fire sale prices (Greece style). Austerity will be the watch word. If the IMF comes in with they checkbook then look for a real squeeze on the common man. They will make Madero look like a saint.

Ehhhh

I had a close eye on the Caribbean area for 20years, fluent in Spanish.

Can't say it's going to well for Cuba, 50 years of suffering, people flee like crazy.

Compared to the US.

Sure all systems have problems, but capitalism can be regulated, dictatorship cannot.

Now let's hope the stupid hijo de puta, Nicolas maduro, goes to hell.

But then again, people's choice.

If they want to suffer cuban style, please, go ahead., 555

Boy where they lucky that Chávez died.

Interesting sea change in South America.

Argentina kicked out the lefties.

Brazil leftist leader under impeachment threat.

Maduro castrated (so well deserved!).

Ecuador's quite decent leftist Correa decides to not go for additional terms.

What's next? CUBA? whistling.gif

Results are in.

Opposition won 99 seats to take control of the congress. The Chavez pro-Russian and pro-Beijing regime won 46 seats.

CCP Dictators in Beijing have been sending CCP cadre to live in South American countries to gradually take them over. Little to nothing has ever been publicly said or reported of how CCP Cadre for many years have been studying and learning Latino Spanish to facilitate these sinister purposes and goals.

Some countries in Central America are targeted too, such as Nicaragua where Beijing has another zany grandiose dead in the water scheme, in this instance to build a new canal. Beijing especially but Moscow too were convinced they'd win South America over to them without firing a shot.

This and all else pointed out by Jingthing in his post and much more are a shot in the gut to the New World Order of the falling Brics. The camaign of Beijing and Moscow to take control of South America is failing miserably, as it was always going to do. The Brics have no mortar.

India is anyway hardly a Bric country any more either with the new PM Maharinda Modi pro-US. Which leaves the Brics shaping up as the Brc countries. Three consonants suddenly without a vowel. laugh.png They were never a new or coherent word to begin with.
