Police in Kampong Chhnang’s Kampong Leng district said that a Vietnamese fisherman was killed by two masked men armed with a gun and an axe early yesterday morning near Koh Tonlea, where he normally went fishing.

The body was found with severe gashes to the back of the skull. Police believe they are wounds from an axe and that he died almost instantly.

Police said the fisherman was 42-year-old Vietnam-native Chroeng Yaing Kong, who lived in Kampong Chhnang’s Chhnok Trou commune. Relatives and neighbors said he went fishing in the same area every day with his fellow fishermen. Yet yesterday, he was standing far from his group when two masked men appeared. One pointed a gun at him and the other started to attack him with an axe.
