Prayut says students activists intercepted for their own safety
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Tuesday that the authorities prevented a group of student activists from protesting at the Rajabhakit Park for their own safety.

The students who boarded the Thon Buri-Lang Suan train were stopped at the Ban Pong railway station in Ratchaburi on Monday.

Prayut said the authorities learned that a group of people were waiting to attack the students at the park so they had to be stopped for their own safety.

So the self appoint PM stopped the students from going to prevent problems. But why didn't he stop the gangs waiting for them? Or maybe it's okay for them to protest but not the students. Make sense right Mr self appoint PM

You mean protected from Army generals pretending to be concerned locals ?? By organizing an illegal protest !!

Apparently Army Div 9 commander, Maj Gen Thamnoon Vithee, masqueraded himself and led BanPong protesters against the students yesterday. So much for spontaneous local uprising against students

A group of people no doubt arrested for illegal gathering, no doubt. He must have forgotten to mention that part.

+1

Which begs the question: if the govt knew of such rascally rabblerousers, why weren't they rounded up and the students escorted to the park safely.

My bull#$*@ meter would be going off right now, except it got broken last May! It wasn't designed to handle this much BS on a continual basis.

Yes......achieving the rank of general within the military diciplines, doesn't nessesarily indicate intelligence

it fascinates me that all the nayers keep showing up when ever the government speaks and when I remind them about the old line of if things are not acceptable here then why stay ? and they come back with the usual well why did i stay while the previous government was in power ....

now .... ok .... lets go back to the protests, street shootings, killings, unrest and insecurity.

what would you rather ? then or now ?

The current PM has worked hard to stop the bickering, protests, party fighting, insecurity and lawlessness, but for some farangs here it's just not good enough that he's done this. The general was sworn in by HM the king and he was blessed by the people of Thailand for stopping the instability and street protests that bought the country down, but some farangs here are not happy with that.

The simple fact is the PM general Khun Prayuth Chan o cha is in power and thats how it is and that's how it's going to stay.

He's there because the previous controversial PM couldn't do her job and as such someone with the knowledge and respect had to step in and take control thank goodness. He has been to the US as requested, he has been to the EU on climate change as requested, he has stepped up when required but some farangs here just cannot be happy. Maybe it is really time to go back and see how your government at home is doing instead of being negative for the rest of your lives and living in a place where you don't find the PM to your liking..

Interesting way of thinking. So you can only live in thailand if you accept what is happening because you cant change it.

Why did you live in thailand before the coup? If you didnt like it why didnt you leave?

Will you leave when the army finishes and the dems get back in? Surely you must.

Heading back in Jan for a few weeks, and probably putting a foot back in the west from springtime.. After 14 years here..

now .... ok .... lets go back to the protests, street shootings, killings, unrest and insecurity.

I would rather elections.. and the losers of those elections forced to abide by them..

Lets face it, its only the losing minority thats a problem.. They need to learn that an election loss means 4 more years until they get another go at trying for the leaders they want.

Nonsense.. the current PM is working hard to put his cliques and comrades in positions of power that superceed the choices of the people.. Hes fighting to be in control when the big event happens.. And hes doing everything in his power to prevent the political success of the party the people have choosen.. 5 times in a row over a near 15 year period.

I think Steven100 is a little bit deluded. In the UK we have Stop The War protests and we had a rent-a-mob organised by militant Labour supporters last week, the difference is people in a free society have the right to protest !

nope, I think the current government is doing a good job.

ok, lets say he allows anyone and everyone to protest again .... what do you think will be the outcome in maybe 4 weeks, 2 months or whatever ?

there will be kaos !! fighting amongst groups !! insecurity ! and basically start to see lawlessness again.

Their is a reason why protests in groups are not allowed, there are reasons why rules are put in place, there are reasons why the government makes tough decisions .... but at the end of the day if it makes the country safer then thats gotta be good.

I respect your opinion and anyone else who has an opinion .... but I also think about the logic behind the rules and regulations that this government is applying ..... and why.

I as many, are happy with the General Khun Prayuth as PM and may he continue to do so for as long as it takes to ensure stability and security within Thailand.

@steven100: Nevermind the fact that many of us have families and properties and have been here for many years before the coup and that our children have to grow up with their basic human liberties stolen from them. For that matter, let's not forget that the protests were organized by the junta's figurehead in Suthep either, who will never pay any consequence for those actions which incited everything you are saying the general is protecting you from. Create an issue so you can save people from it. It's fairly obvious at this point those two were in bed together the whole time.

The news continues to be reported on a daily basis like a comic strip for kids.

One daft reason or excuse after another. Was not much different under previous administrations either.

I used to care about local politics and current affairs but don't anymore as the majority of local people don't care much either.

Letting human nature and personal greed take its toll will somehow pave the way for this country in the future far more than any amount of common sense and decent morals.

Well, what is your answer to this "fascinating" question?

"now .... ok .... lets go back to the protests, street shootings, killings, unrest and insecurity.

Then. That was the choice of the Thai electorate. Are you saying that the junta didn't have a hand in the unrest??

"The current PM has worked hard to stop the bickering, protests, party fighting, insecurity and lawlessness"

No he hasn't. What he has done is threaten everyone with incarceration or worse if they don't obey his commands while working tirelessly to ensure eternal military/old elite rule.

"The general was sworn in by HM the king and he was blessed by the people of Thailand..."

And exactly how was Uncle Too blessed by the Thai people?? If he is so blessed then surely he would hold an election, right?

"..street protests that bought the country down."

The country was brought down??? I was here and that's plain nonsense.

"The simple fact is the PM general Khun Prayuth Chan o cha is in power and thats how it is and that's how it's going to stay."

No it's not. He's going sooner or later and I have a feeling it won't be pretty.

"He's there because the previous controversial PM couldn't do her job and as such someone with the knowledge and respect had to step in and take control thank goodness."

He's been desperately jetting around the world to try to rub shoulders with elected leaders hoping to gain some kind of legitimacy...... and has failed spectacularly.

@steven100 - many of us think our leaders at home are buffons as well, doesnt mean we need to leave a country. and banning protests, you might like to explain why he allows a continuous protest outside the US embassy or the one at the park yesterday which are clearly in breach of his own laws
