Police boost anti-drug measures
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Police have announced they are installing X-ray scanners to detect illicit drugs and illegal items in the North and will introduce them to the East soon.

Their plan is to stamp out narcotics smuggling ahead of the Asean Economic Community implementation this year.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Rewat Klinkesorn announced the project yesterday during a press conference held over a recent drug arrest.

Chiang Mai native Jaras Pitiprakan, 33, was arrested while drivingon Lampang-Phayao Road to allegedly transport 800,000 yaba pills and 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from the North to Ayutthaya province.

Where as on the 1 hand I applaud any measure to remove Ice/Yabba from the planet, "Their plan is to stamp out narcotics smuggling ahead of the Asean Economic Community implementation this year" is utterly ridiculous and nearly as daft as Takin putting up his flag and saying that Bangkok was a "drug free" zone. Somehow the west loses the was on drug for 50-60 years, yet Thailand expect to stamp out trafficking in a year, good luck with that one.

Checking the money trail of all high police officers could be a good start. Allot of the Yaba business is controlled by the police in NE Thailand.

Australia, is pretty much a police state when it comes to trying to tackle drugs.

Esspesially when it comes to meth and ice, education programs, counceling, TV commercials showing the behaviour and outcome of people on the drug and the penalties for those producing and selling it.

They haven't been able to stamp out smuggling and production of it.

There is way too much money in it for all parties, those policing it and those producing and selling it.

even the police commissioner of Western Austraila's son was caught manufacturing and selling it, on multiple occasions.

For the thai autharities to say "Their plan is to stamp out narcotics smuggling ahead of the Asean Economic Community implementation this year"

Is big boast and wishfull thinking, that will never happen.

Like Sam Kineson once said in a routine on SNL. "Give them back their pot and they'll stop doing crack! Ooo! ooo! ooo!"

800,000 yaba pills and 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine,

That is a lot.
From whom did he get the drugs?
To whom he should deliver the drugs?
Who are the backers and who financed the whole?

Somehow they arrest only the transporters, but never the masterminds behind.
Why?

Why? Because they are the masterminds. You maybe too young to remember the heroin business in the 70's in Burma and Thailand. Buying heroin was easier than meeting a good woman.

Does this mean they'll be sacking their Nigerian employees?

Do you have to display your stupidity at all times?
