Protests great Chicago Mayor's apology over police shooting

CHICAGO: -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has apologised for his handling of a fatal police shooting of a black teenager but his emotional speech was met with protests from some calling for his resignation.

His pledges of reform follow the release of a police dashboard video showing a white officer shooting a 17 year-old 16 times.

The crowd of protesters outside City Hall chanted “16 shots and a cover-up” and also called for the resignation of Cook County State’s Attorney, Anita Alvarez, who has been criticised for taking more than a year to charge the officer responsible for the shooting.

High profile killings of black men by mostly white police officers in US cities have prompted a national debate and protests about the use of excessive force by police.

The 17yo teen, Laquan, was carrying a 3 inch knife [which is legal btw] and was WALKING AWAY from the police when he was executed in cold blood.

That makes you curious, lazy, and ignorant no more.

then maybe you can help me out as well, you were there? An eyewitness? or was the dashboard cam so incredibly clear that you could see the 3" blade in his hand from behind? OR was he really close to the cops while branishing a weapon so it would be easy to see THEN just turned and walked away whistling? I haven't seen the video so, just asking.

ETA: 16 shots does sound a little extreem unless he was a big lad and all hyped on drugs like Rodney King.
