Photo: Thongchai LisittiwongHe's the hero Bangkok deserves - but not the one its traffic police needs right nowBANGKOK: -- Bangkok’s Batman has denied being arrested in the capital after scandalous photos of the Dark Knight at a traffic police booth went viral online over the weekend. The pics of Bangkok traffic police pulling over the Caped Crusader in his awesome Batmobile led many to believe the superhero had gone rogue and broken traffic rules. However the 29-year-old Batman, who disguises himself by day as toy shop owner Kampanat Chankaew at Khlong Thom market, said it was a “misunderstanding”.He claims he was only stopped for questioning at the security booth on Friday while driving across the Memorial Bridge, and that police even asked him for selfies.Full story: http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2015/12/14/batman-busted-dark-knight-detained-bangkok-traffic-police-- Coconuts Bangkok 2015-12-

TheCruncher
He claims he was only stopped for questioning at the security booth on Friday while driving across the Memorial Bridge, and that police even asked him for selfies. In any civilized country his car would be confiscated, and probably pressed to a cube, and the driver verbalized if not in jail for some time. But hey, those countries also don't have nearly 80 traffic deaths each and every day.

You can always go back to your "civilized" country if you can't stomach it here. But don't go to L.A. (USA), eh, the cops there just pumped 32 bullets into a crawling man, how civilized it that?? Jeez ...lighten up a bit why don't you! Since when has Batman ever been required to display registration plates anyway? It's things like this that make Thailand a fun an interesting place to live. To bad lots of people here dont see the fun in it. They are negative, nothing is good here. Still they like to live here. Hope to see iron man once to, that would be cool. Does have tags on the back though. The cops are really verbalizing this Batman. Unfortunately he was recently killed when his 'batmobile' had trouble and he had to pull off to the side of the highway where he was hit. Another one helping the needy. And what do your comment about LA police shooting a man have to do with the subject? The car in the OP is a modified car, might not be road worthy, and be a danger to other road users. I'm sure you must get the point of the vehicle inspections in civilized countries.

I'm sure you must get the point of the vehicle inspections in civilized countries. His responding comment has everything to do with either your inference that Thailand is not a civilized country, or that you are just indulging in Thai bashing, or more likely both. If you knew anything at all about about Thailand you would know that there are actually vehicle inspections for vehicles over seven years old, and just the same as in most western countries the certificate is required before you can purchase vehicle tax. - guess you never heard of the TorRorRor, or even know what it means eh? There are also requirements concerning modifying motor vehicles under section 14 of the Motor Vehicle Act So as the police did not issue a fine for any breaches of the aforementioned, and BKK traffic police do tend be quite tough, it's a fair assumption that the vehicle is likely in order, apart from no registration plate displayed - a fairly minor offence anyway. If you really cant stomach that, then maybe you need to go back to your so very "civilized" home country, where you will be protected and safe from the huge danger of meeting Batman in his modified car. And finally with reference to your first post quoting 80 traffic deaths a day - yes the figure is roughly correct, but just quoting that figure by itself is meaningless and rather disingenuous. There are other things to take into account. Many many more people per head of population drive in Thailand than do in other parts of the world - likely due to the fact that pretty much everyone who doesn't have a car will have a bike\scooter and a lot of car owners will also have\use a scooter at times. Half of the world's road fatalities are motorcyclists. Do you start to see a connection? It's also useful to look at fatalities per 100,000 vehicles The figure of road deaths per 100,000 vehicles for Thailand is actually quite reasonable. Of the 190 odd countries providing statistics on road fatalities\100k vehicles, Thailand just gets in the lower 50%.. Highly unlikely then that Thailand's figure of 80 traffic fatalities a day is going to be reduced significantly by the Thai traffic police confiscating the Batmobile, and throwing Batman in jail.... Really, have you actually ever been to Thailand, or to a vehicle inspection in Thailand for that matter? I drive a car and ride bikes for over 20 years in Thailand, so I have been to plenty of them. What happens at such an inspection is check the frame and engine number, emission test, check the lights and for cars additionally also brake test That's all. You call that a vehicle inspection? By the way vehicle inspections can be done at third party garages, and there is nothing what some palm grease can't fix there. Now if you drive around in Thailand, which I doubt you have ever done, you will on a frequent base notice vehicles with no lights mounted at all, yet they have a tax sticker so they must have passed vehicle inspection. Strange isn't it? It's also useful to look at fatalities per 100,000 vehicles The figure of road deaths per 100,000 vehicles for Thailand is actually quite reasonable. Really, you must live in another Thailand as everyone else, or most probably under a rock. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/789014-thailand-ranks-world-no2-in-road-fatalities/ Thailand ranks world no.2 in road fatalities BANGKOK, 3 Jan 2015 (NNT) – Danger-prone road conditions and recklessness of motorists have made Thailand become one of the three countries with the highest numbers of traffic fatalities in the world. Based on the statistics of the World Health Organization and University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, Thailand is ranked second in terms of traffic fatalities with 44 deaths per a population of 100,000 per year.
