Obtaining Information from Jomtien Immigration

Featured Replies

I'm about to change from one type visa extension to another, and went to Jomtien to ask about requirements. The intake guy was clearly in no mood to chat with me about all the requirements. I didn't push it as I know better.

There used to be a Westerner there who I feel would be a lot more helpful, but I didn't see anyone on that day.

Does anyone have any ideas on who to talk to there to make sure all my documentation is in order rather than finding out there are problems on the actual day I do my visa?

It would most certainly help if you disclose from which type of extension you wish to change and on what basis your new extension would be

Work permit extension to retirement extension, I've gotten information on what I need to bring in this thread already--I just wanted to have someone at Jomtien look at and verify the documents I have gathered are correct and sufficient.

Understood. But indeed that guy is not that helpful.

Go to the shop left of the immigration entrance, the people there do nothing else but check & prepare docs for all kind of tasks. Yes, they will charge you for checking, but if you are insecure, there you go.

Alternative: try on your own but leave youself enough time before expiry of the current extension, immigration will tell you if something is missing, worst case is really to be sent away getting more documents

Thanks for the idea--I was kind of wondering if the copy shops do stuff like that. The timeline is very tight as I understand I must do this the same day I get my work permit cancelled.

That is the right thing to do, Immigration offices in Thailand make up their own rules

so you are better knowing from them exactly what they require from you.

Was in there today doing my annual extension.....Got there at 10.30 AM, after she checked all my papers were in order she told to come back at 13.00 hrs as all the morning No's were used up already. Strange I thought, considering my bank (BKK Bank beside Soi 5)didn't open till 10.00AM to get my "letter" so couldn't have arrived there much before 10.30 AM. Maybe they give all the early No's to the agents. Have to call back Thursday morning to collect passport.

You are so right! Once in Mae Sot they even refused to give me a 30 day extension on a tourist visa based on that I did not have an address in Tak province... I was a tourist, between work, traveling around in Thailan and on that day I was passing Mae Sot on my way up in the mountains between Thailand and Myanmar for the funeral of one of my old students! I later did the extension in Nakorn Sawan with no problem and I told them about the immigration office in Mae Sot and they just called them crazy because as a tourist you should be able to do your extension at any immigration office in Thailand no matter where you normally stay.

You could try just saying retirement extension, and then the young girls check over your paperwork.

The intake guy is a grouch and often not helpful. I hear they have been very busy lately and he is probably stressed poor soul.

Not sure what happened with the farang helping in there.

If money is no object you could try getting one of the visa outfits to take care of it all for you.. I don't think I can mention any here.

Good luck, I will be there next week!

If on a visa exempt or tourist visa entry you can apply for an extension at any immigration office but you do need a local address to put on the TM7 application form. I suspect that was the problem you had when you tried to do it at Mae Sot.

I get my letter the day before then update passbook at machine outside branch on the morning.

I guess that you are right Ubonjoe! As I have my address in Kamphaeng Phet so it's Nakorn Sawan immigration that is closest. BUT I have been on TR visa and made extensions in Mukdahan, Pitsanulok and Korat using the same address in Kamphaeng Phet when I have been between work (and non-B visas) so instead been traveling around to see as much as possible of Thailand.
