Record Numbers Apply for Armed Forces

Khmer Times/Taing Vida

More than 3,300 youth candidates sat for the Ministry of National Defense recruitment exam yesterday to apply for training, both as additions to the forces and as replacement soldiers who reach pension age in the up-coming months.

Lead by Hun Manet, lieutenant general of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (FCAF) and the first son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the nation-wide recruitment exams took place in Phnom Penh and in Stung Treng, Siam Reap, Battambang, and Kompot provinces. Only 620 candidates will be selected for the training.

Speaking at a press conference in Bak Touk High School Phnom Penh, Mr. Manet said it was a remarkable moment for the Armed Forces, given that 3,304 candidates – 1,165 of them female – have come and sat for exams. The number is an increase of 43 percent compared to 2014, which saw around 1,800 candidates sit the exam.
