TM30 Chiang Rai Immigration advice

I was in the Immigration office located in Chiang Rai today and asked when my wife who is owner of our house has to submit a TM30. They informed us that only when I as a non Thai returned from overseas travel or we change residence. I asked the question what if I travel to Bangkok for 7 days does she have to submit a TM30. The answer was an emphatic no.

Some offices seems to be acting on this differently.

Since this is becoming a changing topic, with some Immigration Offices belatedly issuing fines for non-compliance of an up-till now un-enforced rule, best to keep your 'ears' open to a possible procedure change.
