The president of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) is among the National Assembly lawmakers named to receive the Royal Medal from the King. However, Sam Rainsy, living in self-imposed exile in France, is unlikely to be present for the award ceremony on Thursday.

According to the press release from Leng Peng Long, secretary general of the National Assembly, the awards will be offered to all lawmakers under the chairmanship of Heng Samrin on Thursday at 2 pm at the National Assembly.

“The offering of Royal Medals to members of parliament is to implement accordingly to the statute of lawmakers...which fulfill their works to the nation and the people,” the statement said.
