A shot in the dark: More than 1 million people in Thailand will celebrate Christmas in darkness

Featured Replies

The current Pm will only bring happiness to the elites of Bangkok, every body else can go beg for scraps, sorry they got a song for New Year and the promise of elections in 2017, How generous is this man to the Thai people

These people have been without electricity for longer than the current PM has been in power. As far as I'm aware the Army has been installing solar arrays in some of the villages.

Please stop bringing truth and logic into discussions like this.

It tends to confuse some people.

If I was one of them I would ask myself "What exactly has Buddhism bought me"?

It's called the "sufficiency economy".

Wonderful for the top 1%, not so much for the rest!

So it's now time for a change the Sufficiency economy should now give way to the Insufficiency economy and frankly not before time! don't worry about the top !%

they always cream off the first 99% !

dear snoop, mind, please.

A) Karen people don't celebrate Christmas, it is none of their holidays.

B ) their village has been without electricity for decades, they are used to it and they use candles and headlamps.

C) muslims do not celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ - you must have fallen for a myth. They recognize him, and mention him in the Quaran, but muslims do not celebrate Christmas.

D) what is your post about ? Electrifying every part of this country? Some islands resorts out there still go by Diesel generators.

last but not least, WHY is this a problem? Mankind has lived without electricity for thousands of successful years

just let THAT slowly dissipate into your mind . . .

even in sleep, there is never no dark

shoot yourself in your own knee and wake up . . . . . . .

It's about time Thailand got into Solar Power in a big way, given the the hours of sunshine.

Yeah, they can buy one of the new Tesla batteries for when it ain't shining, only $15,000 each.

Solar power in the UK is at such a level of developement, that it supplies power needs, and then contributes surplus energy to the National Grid, which they get paid for the surplus.

So hours of sunlight is a major advantage for Thailand!

Solar power is soaring in Japan. Perhaps their being more educated regards the downfalls of the dinosaurs that are oil gas and coal (nuclear a given), may have something to do with it. Entire towns run on solar. It's simply most other countries' governments, namely the US, don't see so much money in it.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_in_Japan

Of course the USA still have plenty of oil, which they hang on to and buy on the open market!

im sure they dont care about electricity and are quite happy up there without it, no capitalism no consumerism, rise with the sun and bed when its dark... oh and i know for a fact they have generators and battery powered lights if they really need them. infact ive spend many weeks up there myself, and i can tell you they are very happy people and do just fine without internet and smart phones and plugged into the endless crap we are.
