PHUKET: -- A man is in hospital after his pickup truck slammed into a tree on a traffic island in Phuket Town amid what is believed to be anillegal street race early this morning (Dec 24).

Kusoldharm rescue workers were called to the scene of the accident, in front of PTT gas station on Phoonpol Rd, at 4am.

They found a Mazda pickup with a crumpled front and the driver, later identified as Seksit Srianan, 22, unconscious still trapped inside.

Rescue workers took 25 minutes using “jaws of life” hydraulic cutters to free him before speeding him to Vachira Phuket Hospital with severechest injuries.

Further down the road was a pickup with a damaged rear end.

So fortunate that no innocent people were killed by this wrecklessness.

Wasn't there something about traffic violations only costing 300 Baht over Christmas?

The police will continue there investigation till they find out if the guilty drivers parent have enough money to pay for all the damage and for the kindness by the thai police. They will never stop racing until the get very very stiff penalties!
