Best way to travel Korat to Bangkok during holidays

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

Now I know the smart think is not to go to Bangkok at all during the holidays but we have to go sometime before January 3, 2015 because we have a doctors appt Bumrungrad Hospital and then an appointment at the US Embassy January 5 which we waited months for.

I am open to any mode of transport from Korat or nearby: bus, car, train or plane (there ain't no planes I think :)

Anyway, I want to consult you long timers for expert travel advice.

I prefer bus. What date and time of day would you pick to take the bus. December 31 Thursday everyone is partying January 1 Friday in the morning when all the drinking folks are sleeping it off. January 2 Saturday after the holiday or earlier than Dec 31.

Or what would you do?

Or am I just flumoxed no matter what?

Merry Christmas to call you Isaaners!

Actually the traffic is out of Bangkok until after New Years so should not be much of an issue for travel to Bangkok.

No flights.

100% certain: don't travel on Sun 3rd. Nightmare.

By car/bus:

If you are up and sobber try the 1st (not too early, take your time).

Looks like some are already heading back to Bangkok on Sat 2nd hoping to avoid the complete congestion on Sunday.

On Sat 2nd I would go as early as possible.

I usually look into the domestic flight bookings, availability/prices to get an idea.

Oneway flight from Khon Kaen to Suvarnabhumi on Sun 3rd from 3080 Baht up.

Only one early flight available and less than 10 seats.

Thats exceptional.

Here's a secret for the bus. Get two seats side by side. Yes you can do it. Makes the trip much more enjoyable. Just make sure your departure and arrival into or out of BKK is NOT between about 4 and 10 pm. And same for AM times. Make it for between 10-4 and it will be ok.

Going by the adverts in the Bangkok Post, Bangkok is a great place to celebrate new years eve, so why not go there by bus on the 31st when everyone else is heading East, have a great night out and relax for a couple of days before your appointments.

It will cost you for the hotel of course but it could be a great holiday.

By 'exceptional', do you mean that you think that's a good price?

Did you forget the smiley biggrin.png

Exceptionally booked, only excessive prices remain.

Off season it was down to 1000 Baht.
