LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Clayton Johnson, who wrote the first episode of the original "Star Trek" television series and created the story for the first "Oceans 11" film and the movie "Logan's Run, has died. He was 86.

The author's son, Paul B. Johnson, told The Associated Press on Friday that his father died of cancer in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Johnson also wrote several classic episodes for the 1960s TV series "The Twilight Zone."

Johnson came up with the story for "Ocean's 11" in 1960 and co-authored the dystopic novel "Logan's Run" in 1967. The latter was adapted into the popular 1976 film and later a TV show.

Although not widely known outside of science-fiction circles, Johnson was revered among fans of the genre for his work.
