December 26, 201510 yr 2 out of 3 Thai girls seem confused when I tell them I'm near Central Festival. I have to say it a few times and say things like "near Pattaya Klang" to get the message across sometimes. Why is this? Does they have another name for Central Festival? I know the Thais call 7/11's "Seven" so I'm thinking this might be the issue.
December 26, 201510 yr Just say, "I'm in Apple shop looking for a phone for you", think you'll find your beau is at your side before you have time to hang up!
December 26, 201510 yr Maybe because of this ? https://goo.gl/maps/JCtZe7b7guK2 Edited December 26, 201510 yr by MJCM
December 26, 201510 yr Try 'centran'. Or 'Centrun' Both work. Rule of thumb....no full sentences to ever be used.
December 26, 201510 yr Yes drop the word Festival, that will give them too mutt to think about. Central is what is used by Thais anyway, and theres only one Central in Pattaya.
December 26, 201510 yr Yes drop the word Festival, that will give them too mutt to think about. Central is what is used by Thais anyway, and theres only one Central in Pattaya. True, but ..... Remember that CentralFestival in Pattaya is different from Central Festival Pattaya Beach because CentralFestival has been an alternative name for the Big C North Pattaya for several years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentralFestival_Pattaya_Beach
December 26, 201510 yr Sentrun beech lod Seriously: its NOT a joke. The Thai script (small letters above the 2nd road entrance) is transcribed as: S E N T R L (no C in Thai) An L at the end morphs to an N by rules. S E N T R A N (A spoken like a single U in English) One of the many examples why it is so difficult to handle foreign loanwords Edited December 26, 201510 yr by KhunBENQ
December 26, 201510 yr Sentrun fessatiwun? sentrun fet-ti-wan ? AND: don't be fooled by educated promo girls etc. who will pronounce it English (at least close). Edited December 26, 201510 yr by KhunBENQ
December 26, 201510 yr Central festival was/is the big c at Pattaya north. Try just central Sent from my S4 LTE
December 26, 201510 yr Try getting them to say Royal Garden ( Yhaw yhan gaah den ) and squirell or its Latin form - Sciuridae
December 26, 201510 yr If I am going to the mall, I sure don't want them coming with me...anyways. So I tell them Central Festival.
December 26, 201510 yr The Central "Center" where big C is on 2nd road between north and central used to be called Central Festival and is indeed owned by the Central Group, even though they never had a Central department store in there. When the Central 'proper' on Soi 9 opened, they transferred the name over, so old Pattaya hands might still cling to the old name
December 26, 201510 yr Why tell them where you live in the first place .If you do have to ,say something like Nirun Condo ,so that they think you have little money ;-). Edited December 26, 201510 yr by anto
December 26, 201510 yr Author I live in a small apartment building so that's why I use CF as a reference point. Thanks, I'll try the Thai way of saying it.
December 26, 201510 yr As others have said, pronounce it "Sentran" and they will immediately know what you mean.

December 26, 201510 yr I live in a small apartment building so that's why I use CF as a reference point. Thanks, I'll try the Thai way of saying it. You would be better off saying "Big C North", which is what most people call it.
December 26, 201510 yr ^Is not big C north a totally different place ?I take Central Festival as being where the Hilton Hotel also is ?
December 27, 201510 yr ^Is not big C north a totally different place ?I take Central Festival as being where the Hilton Hotel also is ? Funny when looking at the thread title "Thai girls confused about Central Festival" Meet at "police station", they will likely know and its just a stone's throw away
December 27, 201510 yr ^Is not big C north a totally different place ?I take Central Festival as being where the Hilton Hotel also is ? My mistake. You are correct. The one at Big C North is Central Centre.
December 27, 201510 yr Just say Shabushi. They all know where that is. There is another Shabushi at the old Central.
December 27, 201510 yr http://www.pattaya.net/images/mall_centralcenter.jpg The Central Festival opposite Soi 2 has been called that for many years. I didn't know which one the OP was writing about Edited December 27, 201510 yr by BWPattaya
