There are really three kinds of illness;

1. The easily curable kind. This requires a pharmacy visit.

2, The incurable, untreatable kind. This requires patience and lifestyle adaptation.

3. HIV. For this, you need an infectious disease specialist. Go to Dr. Winai at Siriraj hospital (Used to be Tuesday from 6:00PM to 9:00PM) so he can check your viral load and CD4 count to see if its time to start efavirenz-emtricitabine-tenofovir.

If it's the clap, just take 1000mg of Azithromyacin in one dose without food and don't put your dick into anyone for a week.

Just go into a pharmacy and treat yourself.

Much easier and cheaper.

Take the pills for Gonorrhea, then if you still have symptoms, Syphilis.

Both those courses of anti-biotics will take out almost anything else with them.

Or just wait and it will fall off by it self.Don't forget to buy extra drugs to put in your wife or girlfriend's food .

(just tell her it's special vitamins.)

This is terrible advice. Esp. given that there are many antibiotic-resistent strains of gonorrhea. And the reason these strains are antibiotic resistant is because of improper treatment and people doing what you're now recommending.

This "terrible advice" is not as bad as you may think. If the gonorrhea succumbs to whatever antibiotic is thrown at it - (Azithromycin mostly does the trick), then it's over and done with. What's the worst that can happen? The person has to try something else. It's not like he is causing resistant strains to develop if the pathogens are already resistant to that particular antibiotic.

It has been over a decade since I've had to worry about this LOL, but self-medication is quite OK in my books as long as you do some research first. It always got me out of trouble and saved me wasting money on quack doctors here in Asia.

Gonorrhea cannot always be detected even with lab swabs. The number of ladies walking around with it, asymptomatic, is a big shocker. Infertility is a big concern for female with untreated gonorrhea.

Stopping short of full bacterial kill is normally the way resistant strains develop, not taking the wrong antibiotics.

Syphilis is a cheap lab test at most clinics in Pattaya.

You obviously don't understand how bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics. Improper treatment ... especially not long enough ... will leave some of the bacteria alive and often enables those survivors ... and their progeny ... to be more resistant in the future.

You obviously didn't read much of my post because..

What part of "Stopping short of full bacterial kill is normally the way resistant strains develop, not taking the wrong antibiotics" had you confused?

It should be obvious we're talking about the same thing.

Best STD clinic I know of who has cleared up everything nasty that's come my way during the last 20 years in Thailand with 15 years in Pattaya, and I guess a thousand sluts or so has to be the clinic about 20 meters in on the right hand side as you enter into Soi Lengki from Pattaya 3rd Road. He is fantastic - and to be honest, too good for this nasty city: He should be commended for spending his time here treating us lost souls on what is his personal crusade to reduce the spread of HIV AIDS and the spread of STD's in Thailand.

His clinic looks very low key from the outside - but don't let this fool you - inside he has all the high tech toys to sort out not only the latest dose of the clap going around walking street, but is also an OBS/GYNO Dr with Ultrasound gear, full lab setup and everything else you would expect in a high end hospital and has been involved in the pre-natal scans and check ups of 2 of my 5 children.

For stubborn doses of the clap/NSU, he carries out multi-petri dish lab work to investigate the most effective anti-biotic combination to treat what you have (The Gonners always comes with an assortment of NSU's - catching them all is quite difficult nowadays since bacterial infections world wide are all becoming progressively immune to antibiotics - with Pattaya claps are some of the strongest in the world)

The guy is so high end in treating stuff, I would go so far as to Christen him a boffin - outside all the high end STD/GYNO work he carries out there, he keeps 2 meters crocodiles in the shop (live ones not stuffed), takes joy out of showing you his latest guns and targets from his families last weekend's shooting session 'nice grouping' , keeps cats, keeps a massive offroad truck in the waiting room, goes scuba diving and flies large model aircraft. Get the picture biggrin.png

The guy was recommended to me by a 25 years experienced go-go bar owner from Walking Street and the is pretty well known amongst old timers. He sorted out around miscellaneous 20 doses of evilness my end. The worst dose he sorted out was from a long time girlfriend and Walking Street mamasan - which recurred all by itself as un-earnt doses(no shagging involved) for several months after I handed her the Spanish Violin. 'dirty cow' rolleyes.gif . (The gogo name will not be mentioned here) apparently about 1/3rd of all the dancers and staff (yep serving girls too) were dosed up at one time or another, so be careful out there guys.

I caught my first dose of the clap in Istanbul in early 1963 and my second dose in 1965 at the old Thai Song Greet Hotel in Bangkok. The first case was easily cured by a series of penicillin shots that I received while in Greece but the second case was more resistant to treatment and thus it took much longer to get rid of. So after that I got smart and always wore a condom.

Also, be advised that it would be very unwise to try and treat yourself when there are competent medical professionals around.

Have seen Dr. Olivier a couple of times years ago, not for STD, and I was not impressed. A nice man certainly and I suppose some xenophobic Europeans feel more comfortable dealing with someone who looks and sounds like their village doctor back home, but for anything requiring lab work or more than the most commonly available meds, you'd be better off going to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Fair advice but you may not be better off financially.

There is also The International (soi 4 Beach Rd), and the Pattaya City Hospital (soi Buakhao).

These so called "drug-resistant strains" are only in the person who has attempted to self treat. He/she isn't going to continue being "active" with others until he/she gets a clean bill of health or needs some dosh or gets horny or gets drunk and thinks he's cured or does some meth and wants some more or her boyfriend makes her get back to work so he can gamble and drink. So, unless you think everyone is responsible and abstaining you are much better off assuming every partner is HIV positive and carrying some drug resistant strain of various STD's and either abstain yourself or take your chances. Since most are stupid enough to take their chances, they may as well self medicate and mask the symptoms. It's a wicked world, get used to it.

There is no such thing as a "25 years experienced gogo bar owner" from Walking Street. Those who own the property remain in the background and use real Thai doctors, not STD clinics set up to treat farangs. While the Doctor you refer does come with some recommendations, I'd not take the advice of some farang claiming to be a pimp in this third world country for 25 years, seriously. What sort of individual pimps for 25 years?

Very well stated...

Most do in fact go bareback, and while we won't define "monger", let's just say most men.

Most women don't refuse to have sexual contact with a male who refuses to wear a condom, if nothing else, he just tells her he'll pay an extra 500 Baht or that he's "sure" he doesn't have anything.

HIV remains in the background, way over stated risk wise, proof is in the fact that most people haven't died off. Sure, it's there, along with cancer and heart ailments. The scare tactics didn't work. They don't work for your heart's health, why would people worry about HIV? They continue to eat crap food....

Lastly, to bring it home, if you are having bareback sex with complete strangers, you must be willing to accept the risks and assume they are in fact infected with something. Not only the person you are with, but everyone he/she has been with in the recent past.

Reality sets in.....you are either active or abstain. Everything else is just talk.

Some of the advice in this thread is way off base. Do not self medicate nor rely on a pharmacist; a proper diagnosis by a doctor familiar with current patterns of drug resistance is essential. It is quite possible to have a drug resistant strain of an STD without yourself having had an incomplete dose of antibiotics.

The other important consideration is that anyone who has been exposed to an STD and who did not use a condom (as noted by several people, there are some STDs that can be contacted even when using a condom) is also at risk of HIV and Hepatitis and appropriate blood tests for these should be done.

Dr. Olivier's clinic and any of the Pattaya areas hospitals can do what is needed. I do not have information on the other clinics mentioned.

I'm not sure. As I said it's on the lhs coming from beach road, about 150 metres. It has a black windowed front.

Reason for recommendation is that I have had to go here twice and have received, imho, excellent care. Just don't look at any of the many photos on the walls.
