BANGKOK, 28 December 2015 (NNT) - The National Police Chief has affirmed that the police are fully committed to ensuring public safety over the New Year holidays.

Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda has said that police officers stand ready to safeguard the lives and property of the people. On New Year's Eve, the Royal Thai Police will convene a video conference of commanding officers across the country. The meeting will discuss the overall picture of safety measures during the New Year period.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan stressed the importance of safety measures, particularly the use of CCTV cameras and sufficient street lighting.

Meanwhile, Pol Gen Dechnarong Sutticharnbancha, Advisor Level 10 of the Royal Thai Police, was ordered to a helicopter survey of traffic from December 30 - 31.

No one can ensure safety...all one can do is reduce risky behaviors....

Thai police is not reducing risky behavior so the focus becomes bean counters of accidents and fatalities...

Until then every year stats becomes this year stats...

The gaggle of coppers in my local drinking hole, in their white 'Police' T shirts and silly utility belts as they sat slouched around a bottle of 365, perving over the waitresses looked totally 'primed for action'; fully committed', even.

I'm sure the Pol Gen would have beamed in pride at his charges.

Funny isn't it?

The police are holding a press conference to announce that they intend to do their job for 7 days!!

A job they are paid to do 365 days a year....................................coffee1.gif

As you correctly observe, no one can ensure safety. But, I would suggest it's a fair bet that RTP could easily ensure your unsafety if they chose to.

When he says that....does he mean they will be closed for the New Year period..................may as well be for all the use they are

Rather than holding your video conference on New Years Eve, why not have it a few days earlier? Or would this be too much time for mobilizing actual safety measures?

Amazing announcement! Thank God, the Buddha, the sacred prophet Mohammed and all that is Holy -- the RTP have gone into full "protect mode". The holiday is days away and I feel safer already. What a nice "gift". I am thankful that press conferences solve everything.

Amen.

Sadly Thai drivers live in a world of their own, the laws of the road and safety apply to others, its up to others to take care, until the police start to do the job they are paid for ( I presume ) rather than do what they can be bothered to this year end will be like any other year here utter carnage. Until they get out and enforce the LAW nothing will change, what do you think Prayut? Sort it out!

Well they have been preparing for the previous 51 weeks.

Helicopter survey of traffic? Why not use rc drones and save money? Just an idea, not being critical. 555
