BANGKOK: -- Several measures and projects to ensure safety travel for the people during the New Year festival, to fight drought, to assist villagers, rice traders were acknowledged and approved by the Cabinet at its last meeting this year.

Government Spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the cabinet meeting which was the last of the year yesterday.

The meeting saw the prime minister instructed all ministries to follow up on their projects and set periodic targets.

He advised that they make the public see the results of their works clearly.

For the New Year’s travel by the people, the prime minister asked national security personnel to ensure the public’s confidence in transportation, travel, economy and safety during the New Year holidays.

For expected drought in the upcoming dry season, Gen.Prayut acknowledged the country’s water information compiled by units in the district level.

According to local officials, the country now has 21 billion cubic meters of water, of which 18 – 19 billion cubic meters are expected to be used by August – September next year.

The 21 billion cubic meters are therefore considered as sufficient for the next dry season, the spokesman said.

But a water use management remains necessary after the number of farmers who planted off season rice did not decrease as expected, he said.

The cabinet also approved an increase in compensation for rice traders in 2016 by 204 million baht following its speculation that next year’s rice price will be lower than 8,000 baht/ton.

It also decided to extend the Village Fund program to March next year or until the 60-billion-baht budget is spent up so that potential villages will receive funding from the program, the spokesman added.

I see they "forgot" minor issues like democracy, freedom of speech and internet censorship................coffee1.gif

But I trust the general, so I am sure it will be on the agenda in the first meeting next year..........cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

"...asked national security personnel to ensure the public’s confidence in transportation..."

Oh yeah, I'm super confident in travel after hearing about the bus driver who killed 14 Malaysians trying to run away from an accident he caused.

So exactly what is it you did to create enough water for next year? I'm not clear on that.

...and why exactly do rice traders need a helping hand before farmers do? I'm not clear on that one either.

...and exactly what has the village fund accomplished. I haven't heard any great examples of what good this money has done other than line the pockets of government officials.

Yet another example, from the broadcaster we can trust, that suggests the regular English-speaking reporters must be on holidays.

At least, one hopes that's the reason for the poor standard of their English language reporting being dished up at the moment.

I agree with eveything in the OP.

My kids are asleep now, so can you please stop kicking the front door down.

Also my mum is dead so there is no need to go looking for her in order to tell me to behave.

We have sold all our flashlights, we will never go looking for corrruopppptionire (posting from Thailand, so fhat word is banned).
