Kathu officials hand out nasal inhalers to promote driving alertness in Phuket New Years traffic

Featured Replies

Gonna take a hell of a lot more than nasal inhalers to get this populace to wake-up.

They have just confirmed what i always thought about thai people

Yes, Thai people are the great illusionists.

Appear to be saying something, appear to be doing something - all the while, saying and doing nothing.

That said, the craziness here is entertaining. :)

dont knock it until you have tried it.

Never heard of nasal inhaler promoting alertness.

Is there any medical support for this or is it just another official crackpot idea ?

Red bull should have joined in as well, so it's a no no to drive drunk at this time of year we will impound your vehicle, but we don't mind if your to tired to drive just stick this up your nose and go forth and fall asleep at the wheel.

hmmm.......probably better to hand out brains but i suspect its too late for that

Jeez =- driving along with it stuck up your nose.... laugh.png

cheesy.gif This is dam dangerous when mixed in your thai whiskey. Tastes terrible. It will also look stupid when lying on a stretcher drunk with it halfway up to your brain. I thought thais used them for 'smelly' farangs! Seriously, it is yet another distraction; if drunk don't drive. 30 years fire/rescue/medicgigglem.gif

anything but do the sensible thing and STOP driving and take a restfacepalm.gif

Well, at least one nostril is still available for that other national pastime !

"Yes, we received these little Captagon inhalers from Saudi Arabia just in time for the holiday season. One little whiff and you can drive from Phuket to Bangkok without even a rest break." ermm.gif

Would it make any difference to the alertness of Thai traffic police if each officer had an inhaler stuffed in every orifice? Doubtful, isn't it?

Many of the "disgruntled, knock anything Thai, farang brigade" out in force here.

Happy New Year, may you all be as happy as you wish.

Before a journey NEVER check your vehicle. If you do and find something has failed you may worry about it and stop concentrating on driving which could lead to an accident.

That will reduce accidents I am sure

While they at it why don`t they hand out stacks of 1 baht coins so the drivers could put them in their ears.........................coffee1.gif

Probably a nice kickback from manufacturer.

Possibly a CIWB....crackpot idea with benefits? Benefits for the BiB, not the motorists.

There seems to be something Asians enjoy about having menthol inhalers stuck up their honkers.

My GF sticks one of things up her nose. I just shake my head. It must be a Thai thing. Man doing that in NA you look like a ass. Ya it is a different world here.

I can only think of one problem useing this " drive alert capaign "

The fumes from the inhalers have to find something to attach themselves inside the head, to in order to work.

I went to a Thai in a hospital just yesterday regarding a bronchial condition. He asked me if I used inhalers and I told him no. He warned my not to start using them as they can become addictive and in the longer term can have a detrimental effect.

I can vouch for nasal sprays being addictive, physically addictive. Long term use damages the delicate tissue in the nasal passage, and you find it hard to breathe, so use more thinking you're congested. It's a bitch getting off them.

I can imagine the inhalers having a similar effect.

I'm amazed this is a new concept to so many of you. Do you spend your time here with your eyes closed?

Better with a dab of Thai Balm under each nostril! At least that is proven to work !

Hmm. I think theres something that we dont know but they do. Having this up your nose does prevent you from drinking same time.

I would like to know if this was only given out to the drivers that passed the alco test?

What a bunch of clowns.

Unbelievable.. how about forcing people to learn the road rules, pass a theory exam and a practical test BEFORE issuing a license just because the have a bike or car????

Worst drivers in the world...

One of the most revolting things to me is any woman going about her business with one of these things stuffed up her nose, especially in the food industry.
