Emergency response personnel attempt to save the Latvian woman.

PHUKET: -- Doctors were unable to save a 65-year-old Latvian woman after she was knocked unconscious and overwhelmed by the strong surf on the island's northwest coast this afternoon (December 31).

At 2:20pm Thalang Police were notified by hospital of the death of 65-year-old Martte Micule, a Latvian national.

Its very calm this time of year. No wind on that side of the island to whip up the surf.

Its blowing in the opposite direction.

Dont want to speculate but maybe she has a heart attack or stroke.

There has been a strong, unseasonal surf these last 5 days of so, with a strong seaward pull.

...unconscious implies 'breathing'...implies alive...

....I read the caption under the photo.....

.. all that time passed....to get her where she was.....before anyone would.to 'try to save her'.....???

...and the expression on the face of the 'medic' is not very reassuring itself....

...condolences to the family of the victim...

Call it Karma. When your time is over it doesn't matter where you are and where you from. Maikhaw Cousin in law died there some years ago. The sea and karma don't make differences local or foreigner.

RIP old latvian lady.
