UK compatibility

Featured Replies

Hello . Have recently completed an extension which calls for replacing my existing consumer unit . Could I bring one over from the UK? They are cheap and plentiful in Screwfix and the like . Wondering about compatibility .

Thanks

Yup, no issues whatever.

If you get a 17th edition dual-RCD unit you're more than good to go smile.png

You will have to replace the main switch with a double-pole MCB of a rating suitable for your meter as Thailand does not in general have service fuses.

Very helpful thank you .

One other point.

If you are getting one pre-populated with MCBs ensure you're not over supplied with 32A units (used for ring-finals in the UK). You won't be able to use them all here as outlets are normally on 2.5mm2 radials protected by 20A MCBs and the plugs are not fused so your 32A would be relegated to your water heaters.

If you can swap the 32A ones for 20A no problem.

Also bring some spare MCBs, and different amp sizes. You never know what you might need.

I done the same thing with a Crabtree 17th edition dual RCD board, and it works great. Although wifey was getting annoyed when half the electrics were going off when we had faults. A lot easier to pinpoint though without specialist equipment.
