BANGKOK: -- THE Royal Thai Army will move armoured vehicles on Thursday from units in other provinces to the Second Cavalry Division (King’s Guard) in the capital. The military transports are being moved in preparation for National Children’s Day on Saturday, Army spokesperson Col Sirichan Ngathong said.

Army vehicles will move from Lop Buri province from 7.30am to 9am. They will join more armament transports from Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, and Saraburi.

Units in Bangkok will move to the division at 10am until 7pm, Sirichan said. These will travel along key roads such as Phetchakasem, Pin Klao-Nakhon Chaisri, Vibhavadi-Rangsit, Phaholyothin, Chaeng Wattana and Tiwanont.

When Children's Day ends, the Army will move the vehicles back to bases on the same routes from 4pm onwards, she said.

I'm yet to see an activity centre,magician or circus anywhere 2 hours north of Bangkok,this is a relatively easy way of providing entertainment to children.

Incidentally some of the best days out in the UK consist of visiting army or war related attractions such as the Imperial war museum and Duxford to name a few.

Irrespective of who's holding power this as stated above is a yearly event and one that is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of children and family's across the kingdom.

As always the TV conspirators are out in force early doors with their usual drivel.

On the other hand, a lot of people find the F word offensive and can usually finish a sentence without the need to offend others.

My own children (and their Dad !) always enjoy visiting the show at the airbase in Chiang Mai every year.

Cold hard steel just reinforce the reality of life for kid's in the underclasses. What the government is saying in a vailed way is they can have a day off but for the other 363 days your life will be more of the same you experience most of the year.

The weekly road closure. I don't know why they bother opening them up at all.

Usually, His Majesty the King gives advice addressing the children while the Supreme Monarch Patriarch of Thailand gives a moral teaching. The Prime Minister also usually gives each Children's Day a theme and a slogan.

Many Government offices are open to children and their family; this includes the Government House, the Parliament House Complex and various Military installations. These events may include a guided tour and an exhibition. A notable example is the guided tour at the Government House, where children have an opportunity to view the Prime Minister's office and sit at the bureau. The Royal Thai Air Force usually invites children to go and explore the aircraft and the Bangkok Bank distributes stationery, such as pens, pencils and books to every child that enters the bank as a community service. Many organizations from both government and commercial sectors have celebration activities for children. Children can enter zoos or ride buses for free.

There is a Thai saying that states, "Children are the future of the nation, if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous."

Says U are A senior member or such but obviously never lived here...or are U just a Thai hater looking for any excuse to have a dig....because every year they move in tanks and such....and have a big open day on children's day...kids love it, playing on tanks and such.....go back to your stale beer

What an image...moving large amounts of army vehicles into Bangkok to protect the children from foreign pedophiles...bulling and agressive school teachers...child rapists...and parents who sell their children in order to maintain their gambling, drinking, and doping habits...This is Thailand...

Got to love that!
