Bahrain cuts diplomatic ties with Iran



PARIS: -- Bahrain announced on Monday it was cutting diplomatic ties with Iran, state news agency BNA reported, a day after its ally and neighbour Saudi Arabia also severed relations with Tehran.

Saudi Arabia cut ties with regional rival Iran on Sunday after Iranian protesters attacked its mission there, angered by the Sunni Muslim kingdom’s decision to execute a leading Shi’ite cleric. Iran is the main Shi’ite power.

“Bahrain decided to break off diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and calls upon all members of the mission to leave the kingdom within 48 hours,” BNA said.

It's easier to cut diplomatic ties with Iran than it is to defend Bahrain from the Saudis, especially since there is a causeway connecting Saudi Arabia to Bahrain. They can just drive across to force the issue.

The Iranians have been attempting to overthrow the Sunni dominated government and clans since the 1970's when they tried to get that wacko shiite cleric weho was living in exile in Iran to take over. The most recent attempt required assistance from Gulf arab countries to put down the Iranian backed shiite dominated uprising. Iran wants to make Bahrain a proxy state. The Gulf arabs nations and their strategic allies Egypt and Turkey have other plans. You watch Iran. It will do its utmost to provoke a distraction by either a proxy attack on the USN fleet in Bahrain or Israel.

The USA will not sit idly by if Iran attacks either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia. Nor will the EU. The Europeans have strategic investments and will protect them.

What hypocrisy. The rubbish is all yours. The Al Khalifa dictatorship (set up by the UK) called in Saudi storm troopers to put down an Arab Spring uprising by the majority Shias, who mainly live in semi-poverty compared to the Al Khalifas & their Sunni sheikhs. Every gulf uprising (and Yemen) is put down with the Iran scaremongering bs. All the gulf dictatorships (except for Oman) treat their minorities (majority in Bahrain) like 3rd class citizens & human rights abuses abound against them as well as are even worse against foreigh workers. I lived over 10 years in one of them.

Iran is extremely unlikely to attack either Saudi of Bahrain but it will prove far more difficult for the US etc to get any agreement from Iran & its allies in the US/Saudi attempt to remove Assad (using all sorts of extreme Islamist factions supported by Saudi).

Regime change via an Arab Spring uprising is OK in Syria but not in Bahrain - such is western double standards.
