Govt to exhibit progress on illegal fishing and aviation problems

BANGKOK, 7 January 2016 (NNT) – The government will organize an exhibition on Thailand’s progress of solutions to problems in the fishery and aviation industries. The government has expressed confidence that its handling of illegal fishing has covered all aspects and the situation has improved.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the National Reform Committee. The meeting acknowledged the progress of many issues including national development, illegal fishing and aviation. The meeting was reported that the government’s solutions to all of the issues had progressed well, especially the problem of illegal fishing.

Representatives of the EU will visit Thailand on 21 – 22 January 2016 to follow up on the country’s efforts to fight against illegal fishing.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense Maj.Gen.Khongcheep Tantrawanich said the meeting agreed to expedite the restructuring of the Thai civil aviation and development of civil aviation personnel. The meeting also agreed to ask the European Aviation Safety Agency to help the Thai civil aviation industry in terms of management and technical know-how.

It's like an alcoholic showing he has drunk 70% less and asking for the right to drive the ship again....still smelling of booze.

Either slavery exists or it doesn't.

Either the airlines are safe or not

EU shouldn't take half measures

Me thinks that a satisfactory agreement on these two items just might be linked........?

I'm not sure what an "exhibit" is in this context. Perhaps a trip to a fishing boat harbor to see boats locked up in chains?

While we're at it, just what is meant by "progress?" The number of meeting held? The number of hours each bureaucrat spend talking and saying nothing? How about official court and other documents listing by name all of the fishing captains that have been charged and tried and sentenced for slavery? The number of fishing boats taking out of service. The stockpiles of all of the confiscated illegal fishing gear - maybe they can feed this stuff to shredders while the EU folks watch?

What the Thai Government should be watching are the lawsuits brought against Costco by their members that will force Costco to label all of the seafood products as having slave labor involved in the chain of procurement and processing. I don't think that the Government fully understands the militancy and power of ordinary people in the U.S. and Europe who what something changed.
