CDC to conclude unresolved matters in meeting trip

BANGKOK, 8 January 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) is set to discuss the unresolved issue, regarding charter drafting at an offsite meeting at Phetchaburi Province.

The CDC's meeting today concentrated on the process of discussing the drafting of the transitory provision in the new charter, as many matters are still unresolved.

The committee has considered the preparation of the CDC’s offsite meeting at Phetchaburi Province on 11-17 January 2016, which will include revising content of the finished draft constitution.

It is expected that the constitution drafting process will be finished within 17 January 2016. The CDC will also hold daily press conferences revealing the content of the meeting of each day.

They're forgetting another unresolved matter that arose with the 2014 draft Constitution: absence of the Preamble in the draft.

The question posed by some NRC members was whether a preamble is crucial for the draft to be complete and insisted the question be presented to the Constitutional Court for review. 2015-08-30

NRC President Thienchay Kiranandana said "he will consider everything before deciding if he will pass the petition on to the Cabinet who will be responsible for submitting it to the Constitutional Court". When asked if this process will affect the NRC’s schedule to vote to endorse or reject the draft charter, Mr. Thienchay said that will depend on the decision of the Constitutional Court.

As it was, the NRC rejected the draft for various articles it found flawed aside from absence of a preamble. So the issue was never presented to the Constitutional Court and remains unresolved.
