Merkel's party calls for tighter laws after Cologne assaults

BERLIN (AP) — Chancellor Angela Merkel's party on Saturday proposed stricter laws regulating asylum seekers after a string of New Year's Eve sexual assaults and robberies in Cologne blamed largely on foreigners.

Merkel said the proposal, which will be discussed with her coalition partners and would need parliamentary approval, would help Germany deport "serial offenders" convicted of lesser crimes.

"This is in the interests of the citizens of Germany, but also in the interests of the great majority of the refugees who are here," Merkel told party members in Mainz.

The reports of the Cologne attacks on women by groups of men described by police as predominantly Arab or North African in origin have fueled calls for tighter controls in Germany, which received nearly 1.1 million migrants in 2015.

"If people act outside the law... naturally there must be consequences," Merkel said.

Of 31 suspects temporarily detained for questioning following the New Year's Eve attacks, there were 18 asylum seekers but also two Germans and an American among others, and none were accused of specifically committing sexual assaults and the investigation is ongoing.

Cologne's police chief was dismissed Friday amid mounting criticism of his force's handling of the incidents, and being slow with releasing information.

Merkel said local authorities must not be perceived to be withholding information and urged that the case be "fully clarified."

"Everything has to be put on the table," she said.

The proposal passed by party leaders would strengthen the ability of police to conduct checks of identity papers, and also to exclude foreigners from being granted asylum who had been convicted of crimes and sentenced to terms even as light as probation.

"Serial offenders who consistently, for example, return to theft or time and again insult women must count on the force of the law," Merkel said.

Merkel has steadfastly refused to agree to establish a cap on newcomers, but the CDU proposal did note that "a continuation of the current influx would overwhelm the state and society even in a country like Germany in the long run," the dpa news agency reported.

Why is there any need for changes in the law? After all the vast, vast majority are doctors, lawyers and engineers fleeing war and are of immeasurable benefit to Germany. Just arrest the one or two troublemakers, haul them up before a judge who will tell them in no uncertain terms that German society is rather cross and should they be arrested again, Germany will be jolly cross indeed. That should see the end of it.

Drafting harsher laws is an admission there is a serious problem at hand. There is obviously no possibility that this could be the case, so we are forever told...

The government has really lost touch with base.

a.) all stays of "refugees" are basically limited in time.
- After the war, the refugees must return to their home countries again.
b. the further influx of "refugees" must limited in the future.
- The accommodations to accommodate people human are greatly limited at the time.
c. Unhindered inflow of economic migrants must be stopped.
- It is a fact that hundreds of thousands of people from poor countries totally uncontrolled cross the borders.
d. It is here violated against the right of asylum and principles of Europe.
- An asylum procedure must be carried out where the asylee pass the first European border!
That is the current, existing law!
I wonder why the government has not yet been sued!
e. Only those who respect the law, are willing to integrate, respected proven our values and coexistence, should be granted after a test procedure, may be the right of permanent residence.

Europe must prevent, that it continues to be overrun by hordes of foreigners from completely different cultural backgrounds.

Some Muslims in the UK already openly declare they are only bound by Sharia Law. When that conflicts with UK Law they follow Sharia. Most are of Pakistan and Bangladesh origin and very ready to use violence against any non believers and the police. Plenty of videos and been going on for several years.

There is a large Mosque near the Aston Villa FC stadium in the UK. There is also a Thai Buddhist Temple nearby which we used to visit regularly. If crowd of young Muslim males milling around outside the Mosque was one of the most hostile and intimidating I've ever experienced. And I've been in some very "interesting places" in many countries in my time. They had absolutely no manners or respect for any non Muslims and made it very clear the area around the Mosque was a no go zone for any non believers, and were more than happy to enforce that. They considered themselves above UK law and acted accordingly.

That was several years ago. Since then more and more "Sharia Patrols", which are totally illegal, have been set up in UK cities, and more illegal Muslim migrants are arriving under the guise of being asylum seekers or through sham marriages.

Those from Pakistan and Bangladesh origin behave as if they were back in their own country, or that of their parents and grand parents. And the police and politicians pander to them.

And, still the liberal PC left wing nutters claim we don't do enough for them and must give way more.

Wow, I didn't think karma would be so quick to run over Germany's dogma. I thought it would be several years until Germany would feel the bad effects of allowing so many Arab young men to settle there. But it's starting to happen within weeks of their arrival. Couldn't have anything to do with German officials not making sure the people turned down (for asylum) actually go far away, could it? Naw. Wrong! It will be 4 million illegal immigrants (yes - 10,000+ per day) in 2016 alone! I doubt that most of us will be alive to see a 2017 (when it would be 8 million illegals in one year, and 16 in 2018) since all indicators point to civil war, revolution and WW3 being ignited this year. I concur with what BB wrote. Britain and Germany are similar, though Britain has been waving the all-welcome flag for longer. I expect Germany will become a patchwork of turfs. Some places Muslim/Sharia and others resembling what Europe used to be. Stratification will get deeply rooted. There could possibly be large walls built, like the wall between Israel and the W. Bank. One thing leads to another, and armed conflict breaks out. There may be a winning group left standing, but Germany will be the loser (or Britain, as the case may be).
