Not something I am interested but there was a notice in a Chiang Mai restaurant regarding one of the immigration chiefs doing a question and answer session in which he stated that it was now possible to convert a 30 day stamp into a proper 60 day tourist visa or non-imm visa WITHOUT going out of the country.

No real details in the notice but it did say you had to have the correct paperwork and at least three weeks remaining on the 30 day stamp.

He also confirmed that there was no change in the 60 day tourist visa regulations, ie back to back visas still okay.

Probably old news but I must have missed it

I don't think that's correct about converting a 30-day entry to a tourist visa, but the bit about non-immigrant visas is true (and not new). Takes a mountain of paper (see here) to convert to a non-B though.
