Rental shops must be profiting from insurance AND what they can get out of the renter, otherwise, it doesn't make much sense to rent to them, as they are h*ll on wheels and everyone knows it. They are generally easy to spot, so I avoid them if possible and am always scanning the road looking for them. Used to be I was worried about the Thai speed demons, now I worry about the Chinese and long for the days when only Thais terrorized the roads.
