Drunk Belgian Involved in East Pattaya Road Crash



PATTAYA: -- A Belgian was lucky to escape prosecution in the early hours of Tuesday after he drove his high-powered motorbike into parked bikes and a pick-up causing damage to each of the vehicles involved.

Police were called to the incident at the intersection with Soi Neun Plub Wan on the railroad running along the East-side of Pattaya, just before 2.30am. The Belgian, who refused to give his name, was driving a Honda Forza 300 motorbike and was seen to be driving at a very high rate of speed when he collided with the parked-vehicles.

If you read the full report you will see.

"A deal was struck where the man agreed to pay for all the damage caused to the parked vehicles, instead of being arrested for drunk-driving."

As for the other points you raise, I too have not got a clue how the other information/non-information was gleaned, or not as the case may be.

In any civilised country the prat would have had to pay for all the damage and he would have been arrested, prosecuted and fined, and possibly given a jail sentence and had his licence suspended. And quite rightly too. I dont want idiots like that on the same roads that I use.

Yes, indeed. However the holiday period is now officially over so the only conclusion I can draw from this is that it is ok to drink drive now. Also the police perhaps do not want the hassle of confiscating and impounding damaged vehicles, lambaak

I like living here but I don't wear 'rose tinted' glasses. There was supposed to be a change in the way police dealt with drunk drivers, but it appears that 'crackdown' only lasted for a week. If you think it's OK for drunk drivers to be able to remain on the roads by avoiding severe fines/bans, that's up to you. However,don't expect much sympathy (from me) if you just happen to be a victim of one of these delinquent drivers in the future.

Seeing guys drive these things down the road, have they

got any idea how silly they look.

If Mr Bean had a motor bike,

he would choose this type of bike, for sure.

After drinking 10 beers , 15 vodka , 14 glass of Mont Clare. one bottle of Samsong

and one hand tied behind my back and talking on a mobile phone.

I suppose it was damages plus a brown envelope, only the envelope didn't make the news report. Same thing really, in the end: pay to avoid proper punishment.
