Overstaying Or Not Overstaying

Featured Replies

It seams that I can't find information . In September 2000, I crossed to Lao without checking out ,just crossed through the immigration post . We thought it was fun . Now that I am planning to visit Thailand next December ,I am thinking about the consequences of what I did .

Am I still overstaying ?

What will happen to me , when I will get to Thailand ?

Do my name figures in the immigration black list ?

How long will remain a name in a black list before getting cleared ?(most countries 5 years)

Thank you

I would get a new passport before coming to Thailand again.

Simple, just do the same, cross to Thailand the same way you did when you crossed to Laos.

Which would technically put him on six years overstay in LOS.

Good thinking...! :o

Nothing will happen to you.

Enter Thailand, present your passport, then check to see that you got your visa-exempt 30-day stamp on arrival.

If the question of the missing Thai exit stamp six years ago arises, say that you don’t know why your passport was not stamped that time. At any rate, you have the Laotian entry stamp of the year 2000.

It is not the passport holder’s duty to know what country is in the habit of stamping a passport upon entry and/or exit, nor is this information available anywhere. If in a country the immigration officer does not stamp my passport – as is the case in many European countries – I certainly do not argue with him and insist on a stamp. Also, there are some countries, e.g. the USA, that only stamp passports on entry, not on exit.

You did nothing wrong in 2006 by not verifying whether you got a Thai exit stamp and by not requesting such stamp. When you re-enter Thailand now and if you are questioned about the missing exit stamp of 2000 it is sufficient for you to pretend that you did in fact present your passport to a Thai immigration officer upon leaving the country. Nobody can prove the contrary.

Hi guys....

That passport expired long ago. I will be applying for a new passport soon. The second sinse 2000 .

there will no stamp at all . I am worried about the "black list". Does the immigration put overstaying people in their black list ....and how long it takes them to clear a name .

??

thanx

Poster obviously departed Laos long ago so the question is if he is on any blacklist. The sure way to find out is to apply for a visa. But do not believe you will be on any list (this time). Black list is a very long deal for anyone with the misfortune to be on it.
